 Topic: My Grandfather's Dealership

Back in January a post called "Allis Dealers" was posted. In this post John(IN) posted the dealerships he knew of in Indiana... one was my Grandfathers dealership... Cordells Garage in Clay City, Indiana.
The Dealership was located @ the intersection of Main St (St Rd 59) and 8th St. There is a Harris Bank standing there now. My Grandfather bought the dealership off of his dad (Alvie Cordell) in 1949 and sold the dealership in 1968 to Pigg Implement in Sullivan, Indiana who is still in business today...
The First Picture is the front of the dealership. (mid 50's during the annual bean dinner)
The second picture is of my Grandfather (Harold "Crocky" Cordell) on the right and Stew Moore on the left.

I really like the pictures. I noticed the AC sign just below the Coke sign. I purchased this one about 15 years ago. Had never seen one like it till now.

Justin: I don't know who you are but My Dad, Red Mishler purchased a lot of equipment From Crocky and his wife Sis over the years. Mom and Dad and Crocky and Sis were the best of friends. I know their kids and new them well also. I think Sis is still living but in failing health. Sue their daughter still sees Dad off and on and I bump into her once in a great while. Great dealership and great people. Crocky knew the Allis's in and out. So did Stu Moore. Crocky as you know has been gone quite a while and Mom passed 3 years ago. Dad's 89 and still running some AC equipment for my brother Bill. You wouldn't be Sue's son would you ? Jim Mishler

Jim,
Yes, I'm Sue's youngest son. My dad is Joe Booe.
Pappie "Crockey" passed away on April 13, 2002.
Mammie "Sis" (will be 92 on June 8th) went into a retirement home last October, health wise i think she will out live us all, but she has dementia pretty bad.
I don't personally remember the dealership as it was sold long before i came around (1981). I remember talking with Pappie about it when i was a kid. I was in college when he passed so I never had the chance to restore a tractor with him (his favorite was the G)... but i can always find a tractor to restore that he sold, my 1955 WD-45 for example came from his dealership.
I see your brother Bill on occasion... he has some nice looking 8000 series Allis Chalmers tractors. I also like his 200 as well...

Great to see a dealership pictures. Thanks for posting. You know, there were not too many dealership pictures taken that I recall. At that time Pop said we were just so glad we had something to do that the "niceties" were often overlooked.
I know I do not have a picture of Pop's Dealership. Had plenty of opportunities but never did - more important things to do.
In any event great pictures. Thanks for posting.

Can anyone tell me how to copy those pictures ? I would love to print them off and give them to Dad. He purchased new: a square back WC, round back WC, WD, WD 45, Series IV D17, 180, a elevater like one in the picture, Many new plows, discs, combines, cultivaters, and a lot of used implements and some used tractors during the years. I remember going there a lot in the 50's and 60's. I graduated in from Clay City in 1968 the year they sold to Pigg Implement. Great memories ! Jim

In windoze, right click on the photo, save it to a file then bring it up with windoze picture viewer which will be ready to print.

Great Pictures! "Crocky" looks like a character and a born salesman. I love those old signs. I have one exactly like yours too Dave. The pictures remind me of our local A-C dealership when I was a kid.

Excellent photos, I love to see old dealerships and gas station petroliana.The pump on the left is a Wayne 71 1938 circa.A fairly rare pump, the one on the right Wayne 70 1937 circa.Those original Crown Globes on top are hard to find also.Thanks for sharing!!!

Those are the awesome-est pictures I have seen in a long time! If you have any others, please post them!
I have a question (having not been around when these tractors were new). What is the tag on the grill? I would assume info on the new tractor? Price, details, etc...?
Would anyone happen to have a NOS one of these they could scan? I'd love to see one if that is indeed what it is. I think it would be cool to make reproductions to put on restored tractors for shows, etc...
What do you think?

Great pictures. I tried to zoom in on the tag but couldn't read any of it. I did notice the All Crop poster in the window, behind the elevator and below the Allis sign.
