I wanted to share some pictures of my 1961 AC 145T grader, i dont think I ever posted after I got it.   I bought it about a year ago and after some needed repairs and the help of my dozer used it to create 3800+ ft of terraces and a couple waterways.  Just got it out of the barn again last night to clean up along the edge of a field where we removed a tree line.  Lost some power steering oil sitting over the winter, thats what the mess is from, it has a seal i need to fix yet, and the reservoir overfills and leaks out when the front leaks out.  it has already paid for itself. Big smile

The 145 was created as a replacement for the discontinued BD line but is really a 45 with a smaller motor as it uses the most of the same components as the flagship model including the frame and blade circle.   It has a 7000 motor (344 with turbo) instead of the 11000 (516) and uses 13.00x24 tires  instead of 14.00 like the big boy and weighs about 1000lbs less.  If i recall from norms book they were only made for 4-5 years before being replaced by the M65?

Any story with that steering box? 

It is totally different to the one on our "Forty Five" and the one shown in the "45" book I have.  They have it  buried in the nose and the shaft from the steering wheel runs down the inside of the frame tube - which is the round one with bolted on front section.  You have to split the frame to get at the steering box.   At least yours is a lot easier to get at.

Is the assist cylinder still down above the axle pivot?

Did the square frame etc follow on to the M100's?  I've never seen one of them.

the steering box is a Sheppard.  made in Hanover PA, the same company that still mfg steering boxes for heavy duty trucks http://www.rhsheppard.com/    this one is all self contained on the top of the frame.  the piston and sector are all inside the the large horizontal tube.   a vertical shaft with a gear on top engages the sector  and of course it has a pitman on the bottom and tie rods.  very simple, just the shaft seal is leaking.

145, 145T 1959-63 

A ton lighter than the 45 and a ton heavier then the BD models.  it did use the same blade circle, 12 ft blade, control system, powertrain and scarifier as the 45.  The M100 shared the same power steering setup and the new 10x11.25 boxframe introduced on the 145.  145 / 145T was replaced by M60 and M70 in '63

Thanks.

That looks more like how a Cat 17K is set up then as I recall.  A neighbour has a 1946 Cat 12 in which the anti-kickback mechanism was worn out and no parts available.  So he just grafted the front of a 17K frame on to his 1946 model to get power steering.  I think it uses a Ross box which looks much like the one used on the 45's but with the input shaft at a different angle and with the cylinder on the pitman arm

Interesting.  sounds like quite a job.   

according to Norms book, the only real difference between the 145/145T and the M60/M70  was the placement of the lift gearboxes at the front of the cab for better visibility.

Looks like it will still do its job and then some.

Got several years as a surgen and a butcher.LOL!Surgery was with BD4.Butcher was a HD11B.
