   Can't get to the tractor to measure, does anyone recall the correct size ( 3/4 I assume) and length carriage bolt used to mount rear weights on a ca. Can't find hardened ones, are the standard carriage bolts strong enough? Anyone just use regular 8 grade bolts? Thanks Ron

  I have one set of weights attached w/ regular carriage bolts purchased from Fleet Farm. (2) per weight. I presume they are grade 3. I believe they are either 3/4" x 3" or 3 1/2". I don't have the tractor here to measure. My other CA has (2) factory carriage bolts per weight held on wheel center with a cotter. The factory carriage bolt was drilled for a 3/16" cotter to be used as a retainer to hold bolt on the wheel center while you slid the weight on. That probably doesn't help much but best I can do for now. Good luck, Mike

  Here is a picture of my restored CA with the rear weights. Note the cotter on the bolt holding the weight on. Also for figuring the bolt length, measure from one of the flat areas that touch the wheel center perpendicular to the flat where the washer bears then add about 1/4" thickness of the wheel center plus washer and nut.    I used (4) 3/4 X 3 1/2  carriage bolts on each wieght. then trimmed the little excess off each bolt. Some where out in the shed I have the original bolts with keeper holes drilled in the head. they only came two to a wheel and I wanted four.

  I was told by others on here that regular carriage bolts are plenty strong. The ones that I have are 3 1/2", but I couldn't find them at Farm & Fleet. The biggest they had here were 1/2", not 3/4", which is what you need. I had to go to Fasten-All. Hope it helps, Ted  |

    I have used the 3/4 X 4 grade 8 bolts for mounting my weights. I use a 3/4 coupling and a 2 inch bolt to fasten a second weight to each wheel and I use 4 bolts with flat washers on the back side of the wheel.

   The carriage bolts are threaded to the head, so I just use a jamb nut to hold it in place on the hub.

   The following is from the parts book and this is my interpretation. It suggests when using 2 outside weights that the inner wheel weight be attached with 2 bolts (#70225325) and the outer weight be attached with 2 different bolts (#70915762). This I believe since there are only 4 holes in the weights. These bolt lengths are not identified in the Dealers Parts Catalog for Standard Parts form D-10. What do you guys think?
