   Sure was tickled to find this AC 720  (serial number 1568). Does anyone know the year by s.n.?  Thought it was sold in 1979?  Sure looks like my 170/175 tractors!  What can you fellows tell me about it? I'll try to post a photo. thanx!

	I have a couple of the Simplicity version the 9020 strong little tractors.I don't know much about the serial numbers think mine is 1004. Yours Looks original and unhacked which seems to be hard to find in that model

	This AC ran smoothly and drove up on trailer. Most of my affordable AC finds have to be loaded or winched up...ha! The AC720 has 570 meter hours. How does that compare to others and how many hours can the Onan Motors last? Are there many implements still around for them? Will other brands with zero cat. hitches work? Thanx for your imput!

	Murph, I found it about 70 miles away in Gastonia,NC. How far is that from you? He said not many people were interested in this old orange mower...ha! I bought it on phone....I know, it's tricky business. AC did a wonderful job making it look like my 170/175's. I've got an old IH126 garden tractor I need to move now ...but glad to do it for an AC!

	Gastonia! That's the direction I was afraid you would say... I'm about 45 minutes North of there. If you came down 40 to Hickory, then you were within 10 minutes of the house.

	Looks good Bruce. 570 hours seems kind of low for a tractor this old though. Are you sure the meter is working? You should be able to hear it "tick" when you turn the key on.

	Murph, I drove to Gastonia down Hwy 74, went near Adam's house. But mine wasn't the "710" listed on Craigslist, ( that sounds more like a 170 with all those gears, but I wouldn't think he'd mow the yard with a 170....ha! I don't understand what he's describing? ) Here's post, if other AC fellers want to see the ad you mentioned. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/grd/1408857258.html I think the AC720 only has 3 foward gears and reverses with hydro-trans. Jim, I'll check the meter (still new toy to me ), but the guy had changed the oil filter when he bought it in '98 and scratched 538 hrs on it. It now reads 570, so he added few hrs on it? Sounds low to me too, that's why I wondered what numbers others had? Should I tell people I got it for only $500?

	I need to check on the 710 might be a steal. Bruce I must say you got a great deal I know of a local who paid over 4,000 for a 720 but his came with 6 pieces of AC equipment and an AC loader.

	Nice find! To find the year for that serial number you also have to have the catalog number like 1690288 or 1690231.

	I found the ID # on side of the tractor and the Catalog # that he had with mower are the same: # 1690073 with serial # 001568 ( inside the catalog the date delivered was 2-19-79 ), but I realize that sometimes equipment may have been sitting on the lot for years before sold. For example, my Dad bought our first brand new AC170 in 1972, but it is #4101 which is 1968 (it was 4yrs old on the lot ) Operator's manual catalog has form print date of 9/74, so is this a '73 , '74, or '79..? .....thanx !

	Likely an early 720 with the light duty front end, but a steal non the less. The CCKB engine in this tractor was Onan's best long run engine at the time. Most tractors have well over twice the hrs and still run well. The problems with these engines are lack of lubrication on the valve train will lead to valve guide wear and low compresion and light smoke. Parts,especially thecharging system, are pricey. But these are really good, long running engines. Tractor's like this that have been left outside and ith this age will likely need the front axle shimmed on the pivot points to take out the slack and a few new bearings in the clutch drive and rear pto. Put a wix or Simplicity oil filter on the rear hydro for proper oil flow and the seals in the rear end are likely leaking so the brakes will be saturated with oil and need cleaning. I have several parts tractors and several running models if you need something. You'll love this tractor. Hope this helps, Dave in Mocksville NC.

	Like that 720. I used to work on small engines. Replaced a starter and did some other electrical work on the Simplicity version of that tractor. Electrical system was a breeze, but starter is a Bear! If I remember correctly, I had to unbolt the engine and hoist it up clear of the frame rails to get the blower housing off. The starter bolt were behind the blower housing. Took a full day to get off, rebuilt, and back on. Just going from memory here. Dream

	hey bruce i just bought a 1979 720 with 2 60inch decks a 48 inch tiller a 52 inch snowblower 5 foot dozer blade n a all steal cab! i had already been given by my dad a 616 with mower tiller dozer blade n a 48 inch danco brush mower . he bought it n 1971 as a bank repo i grew up landscaping on it ! theres alot of 620 n 720 in my area ! we had a 620 n sold it about 12 years back i tryed 2 by it back n the guy wanted twice of what we sold it 2 him 4! anybody lookn 4 one thers one posted on craigslist rockford il farm n garden section its looks extremely clean listed as a big allis chalmers mower!

	Does anyone have a sator for a 620 . I have put a carb on it and seems to run good on the battery. Some one has put a auto alt. on the side runing off the front pto. Also need the two exhaust pipes that run to the muffler. Thanks Dwight

	Tom, steel cabs were offered I believe by some dealers but were made by other companies. I know Curtis Cab and Saf-T-Cab were some.

	The Honda engines have plenty of power to spare. I have some reserves about anyone getting the kind of hrs out of the Honda as we did the Onans. You can do a proper rebuild on the Onan for about a grand. Pricey to say the least. If it weren't for the odd chaging systems I'd always go back with the Onan. Heavy use of the Honda in hot weather has lead to some over heating issues inside the hood. If you can control this the Honda should do you a good job. Just be aware of proper alignment of everything. The rear pto parts are getting expensive.
