92 F150 5.0L. I bought a new computer because the fuel pumps wouldnt run and when i opened up the ECM it had a burn spot inside. Installed a new cardone ECM and it worked fine......for a while. It started playing the i dont want to start game again. At first intermittently now it wont start at all. Fuel pumps ate running continuously. Everything i read on google points at the ECM again. Are the cardone units junk or am i missing something here?
I still gots my A/C but it's clear out in the barn now.

Well,,Leslie Royer,,,it just makes my heart sing reading them few lines from you,,,,,!!!!Clap How you been gettin along,,My Friend,,,,,?? We've miss'ted you for the longest,,we have,,,
Now,,,on your trk, and Cordone,,I did order an ECM from them some time back and the ECM they sent me was the wrong one ,,so I returned it altho they did not want to as it was "Electrical" and after several back and forths,,they finally refunded my money as they could not prove that thay did have a "No Return Policy" on electrical,,,,,
Come to find out  it wasn't the ECM,,,it was a dang ground wire that had somehow got cut and was not visible. A dude on The Ranger Station clued me into lookin for that one ground and when I plugged it back in,,,,,,,Presto,,,the friggin engine started and run like a top,,,!! Might look into that little tidbit,,,,
OH,,,and many Welcomes Backs,,,OK,,??ClapClapClap

hmm.. 'burned spot' usually means a transistor drew way too much current and fried. They go 2 ways, open = no power to pump, shorted = full power to pump. Since the pump now runs, I'm thinking ECM is shorted....
THAt leads me to believe you need to measure how much current (amps) the pumps(s) are drawing.
You say pumps...so 2 tanks ?? If 2 tanks WHO decides which pump to power ? A switch or are BOTH pumps wired in paralled ,so both run at same time ??
The wiring diagram will show what needs to be known.
Say you've got a bad pump, it'll draw a zillion amps and poof there goes the ECM. There 'should' be a fuse in series between ECM and pump, again wiring diagram is necessary.
It makes sense to me a bad pump(or wiring after ECM) could be the problem.

Those older fords had lift pumps in the tank and hi pressure pump on the left side frame rail. Cardone is 50/50 at best. Even the box it comes in is cheap.

Like Jay says check the draw on those fuel pumps. And speaking of cheap parts and boxes, I put a 351 in place of my old 6 banger. It was an EFI motor so I had to swap timing covers n such to mount a mechanical fuel pump. I bought a new fuel pump at Oreilly’s. It lasted about 30 miles. Got a second one and about the same. Pulled it and it had a mile of free play. Tapped it with a hammer and the plunger snapped shut but soon as I moved the lever it stuck again. The spring felt very weak to me. Took it back and had to wait a couple days for another. The third came in a much sturdier box. The same brand name but the pump was much heavier and different. The spring was much stouter and it’s been good to go for a couple months now.
My GMC is broke so the old Ford is my daily.

Most fuel pumps had a secondary relay the ECM fired to provide higher amp load for the motor, would be digging for that.

Les as stated welcome back here. We saw a lot of ground problems with them at the dealership. Our winter liquid salt seems to take a toll on the grounds. There were several other things that I don't remember. Grounds seem to be most troublesome here.

Les I hope you get it figured out, as for me I jumped ship on a 91 150- 5.0 after bout 10 yrs.  Thought I would have good luck since the truck only had 78000 original miles. It had 142000  when it went out the driveway. Last silverado I had was at 280000 & still ran good!! I found a 97 silverado dually 4x4   454, only time I'm not smiling is at the gas pump!!  good luck!

Can't hep on that Ferd problem, I've never owned one..... BUT, I'd definitely take a look at the ground problem.  You know how bad they like to put all that crap on our roads.
AFTER you get it fixed,,,,,,,,,so's now you have enough time to think about it,,,,,,,,I wanna see some 'Thoughts from the Pot'.
WELCOME BACK BUDDY!!!    I was gonna call you again, but now I don't have a phone....little glitch that has only taken a week to solve and it'll be another before it actually is!  Pfffffffttt!

At least for me, it was the ECM.  Sounds like you are describing the problems I had with my truck instead of yours.  Fuel pumps wouldn't shut off, switching from one tank to another would sometimes allow the truck to run better for a while, then it either wouldn't start or would stall/jerk aggravate the stuffing out me. I must have received a good unit, because after the computer change, I haven't had any more troubles.  That was about two years ago.

Anywho,,,,,,,good luck on fixin that stuff up and getting down there!  If I still had my bike and the old lady,,,,,,,,,,er the war dept. wouldn't miss me,,,,,I'd take a trip down.  If I left for more than a week, she'd starve to death....
