Hi everyone, I was doing some research on my crawler and stumbled across this forum. I have a 1973 HD6g. It has a bad oil leak on the front of the motor, i'm assuming it's the crank seal. Can i replace it without pulling the motor? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! I'd tell you what I think you could do, but I've never worked on a "big" motor like that, so I don't want to give bad advice. I know the more knowledgeable guys here will chime in soon!

This is what it looks like with the guard and radiator removed
Park the machine with the with (2) 2x12 planks under the track to get enough space to remove the pan guard and oil pan. Prop the bucket off the ground so you can get underneath from the front. Drain the oil tank. There should be a valve at the bottom of the tank. Remove the radiator guard and radiator. At this point you should verify where the oil is leaking. If it is a large leak it is probably the hydraulic pump hose connections. Post what you find and I will tell you how to procede. |
