I have a HD6E that has a loud pop in final drive or track when it is on a hard push. Sprockets and rails are all good. Sounds like external not internal but could be wrong. Any one have idea of what is wrong.    MACK

Does the recoil system in both track frames seem to be keeping tension on the tracks according to your adjustment at all times?  A  sticky piston or broken spring can cause the track to buckle under the sprocket when reversing the tractor, or suddenly the piston will reposition in the bore with the tractor goin forward under load. An adjuster screw jumping threads under load when threads are shot is common.  Any of these things cause impacting and noise as you described

I had that problem on my 7G. Very loud popping and sounded like a broken gear or something. Turns out the tracks were too tight. I have the hydraulic adjuster type.

could also be a bearing going bad inthe idler. put the blade downa d take the pressure off the idler and try to move it with a diging bar and see if it has play. sometimes internal issues sound like external issues. check the final oil and drain a little out of the bottom to see if you have metal or pieces. good luck.

Right side got worse so broke the track and jacked it up. I did not luck out. Sounds like teeth missing on top shaft in final drive. Guess I will have to go deeper tomorrow.
Thanks to all you guys who tride to help. Sounds like I will be looking for some parts later.  MACK

Hi Mack i was going to ask you the same question as macktractor ,I had a simalar thing
happen to me . On the side this is happening to how well dose it steer . On Our machine The hydraulic pump for the steering was week on one side when you tried to turn sometimes it would make a noise . You could try swapping the hoses on the pump to
isolate a problem with the pump.if it changes it could be the pump or the valve,Personally i think because its Hydraulic you loose the feel of the machine
eg . on a manual machine you know how much preasure your are on the steering
system .on a hydraulic steered machine you dont have that so you can do damage
with out knowing it . There are a few other thing to consider .I would check oil preasure
.you could have a blocked pick up in the trans or the steering filter causing low oil preasure .
