If you don't need to go to Chicago, I39 to I80 is a much better route!

Darrell, time you stop and start from all those toll booths you probably used more fuel going that way, not to mention the 5 gallons you coulda bought with the toll fees!
They were supposed to remove those boothes in 1971. When they raised it to .40 per booth way back when, I started going the 80/39 route, and that was before they finished 39!
I don't so much enjoy the longer drive, but I do hate the unnecessary taxation even more!

I just went through Chi-town Friday and Sat on I90. Buy the toll pass, get the timing right and blast through- not a problem. If I was headed west I would take I80, but going/coming from the NW it's a lot more time and frustration. That plus unless you go through at rush hour, which I know Darrell won't do, there are a lot more traffic jams on I80. Both ways have been under construction for all my of lifetime.

We got an I-pass and take 294 going to WI. NO TOLL BOOTHS, just put her in the left lane and hammer down. The I-Pass also works in Indiana. It's the only way to go even if you only do it once or twice a year, the tolls are half and you don't have to stop. Edited by John (C-IL) - 20 Dec 2010 at 3:48pm |
