We had 4 here this weekend. Ages 11 down to 2. All boys. Good kids but when they get bored and wound up.........chit! The wife had to go to the store and took the 3 bigger boys to help. Her back is giving her problems so let the kids do the leg/heavy work. We only go about once a month so it's a load.

Next was the 2 year old, his dad had a job to do and it was just me and him. I distracted him outside while everyone was leaving but he saw it Oh Hell No! Let the games begin.

He has the potential to be future terrorist because when he is pissed he stays pissed and dads not here so it is only compounded. 3 hours of madness. There is putting your foot down and all that happy chit but with this one it don't work. I've raised 3 already and have 6 grand kids so I know how it works. Finally got the little heathen to take a nap.

Wife got home, got all the goods unloaded, told the bigger ones to keep it down because the demon is asleep.
Dad gets home, goes in the basement says there is water down there. Chit!!
There is a rule here that no toilet paper goes in the toilet, goes in the trash. Kids tend
to use a half roll at a time and it will plug the drain in the basement(on septic system).

So that means I have to rent a drain auger. Has to be at least a 50'. It's 2:30 on a Saturday and the rental closes at 3:00. 20 miles away. Another Chit! While I'm looking the demon shot me in the temple with a Nerf pistol that Granny bought him when she was at the store and he thought that was the funniest thing ever. I didn't.

Drove to Home Depot, 40 miles, only place that had a 75' auger. $550 later got the drain cleaned out. Should have bought one years ago. Cleaned up the mess in the basement, drank some beer took a shower and went to bed.

Back when I was younger and raising our kids I could have taken all this in stride and just been another day. But now that I have been out of the Biz for awhile it's a little harder.

My biggest  regret in life is we have no kids but I wish I did because all those memories you will cherish down the road and look back and laugh when they have their own and you can just sit back and smile and say remember when!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope that $550 was purchase and not rental. Should buy one myself but I have a friend that is part owner in  a Roto-Rooter and plumbing business and only lives a mile away. And he likes Bud Light but I can't pay him until he gets through with the job. Wink Grandkids are great but they can be trying.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

No Hubert I finally bought one. Like I said I should have bought one years ago. When I need one I need it now.
No regrets.
A rental is $75 for 8 hours I think.
No rentals open on Sunday. The thing weighs about 75lbs.
Tried to envision everyone chitting in a 5 gallon bucket.
All boys....that might work. That's when I got shot in the head with a Nerf dart.
Then I got to thinking wife ain't going to go for that idea very well.
Reality checks come in different forms.

Being the youngest of 4 siblings by 10 years (myself) I have heard stories of the terror I caused. Personally I don't believe it because I have no memory of it.

But then again I remember my mom having a little brown suitcase by the front door with my name on it and her telling me I may be going to live down by the river with the "other" people if I didn't straighten up.
Make out of that what you will.

I also had to rent one of them roto rooter machines one day...can't remember how much it cost me, but it wasn't cheap. then was at HF one day and there sat the same machine I rented from the rental place. same brand/color/everything. bought it for about $375. and have used it a lot thru the years. just gotta remember to clean/oil the flex shaft after each use. we too don't have any kids...didn't think the world was ready for another "me"! I love kids...and when they come visit, they all have lots of new ideas in their heads of how to torment their parents! any of ya'll need a baby sitter for a day?
