    Posted: 08 Mar 2019 at 12:08pm
A friend I used to play music with shot himself last night. He's had some medical issues over the years and some chemical dependence and depression issues. I heard he and his wife split about a month ago and last night I guess he'd had enough. He talked about it before but I guess we never took it serious. Been several times over the last few years I've thought "I wonder what Mike's up to. I should call or text" but I never did because he'd want to play music and I wouldn't have time and he'd get his feelings hurt. Wish I could now. He never was a believing man. Everytime I heard somebody bring up religion around him, his answer was "that's not for me". Then I heard he was asking for prayers a couple of years ago so maybe he turned things around. I hope so anyway. It always seems that the folks here have clear, level heads so I hope I'm not telling anybody anything they don't know, but, no matter the problem, suicide isn't the solution. He's the second person this week I've known that committed suicide. The first I knew of him from school but never spoke with him. Just don't get it. Mike left two grown daughters behind. One of which has his first grandchild on the way. He was 51. Miss you buddy.

That's so terrible Tyler.  Sorry to hear.  You are correct in all the ways you describe it.  No worse way to leave those behind than taking your life.  To not want to get every moment you can with a grandchild.......how does one get to that point........?

Prayers for his family and for you too Tyler, the mind is a wondrous and amazing thing, but pain and demons can wreck havoc in there, I agree that life is just too great to want to bring it to an end that way, but no one may ever know the battle he was waging inside his head and heart and this was the way he saw to stop it. Keep your head up hug that bride and those girls tight tonight!

Prayers go out to his wife and children.  The good Lord only knows the demons that some people fight with every day.  I've never understood it either.
My thoughts go out to you and yours.  Yes, hug your own kids,,,,,,as often as possible!

Sorry to hear that Thendrix, all has been said by the others... demons that get in your head and can't shake them out.  Low self esteem plays a big role in those actions..Sad to hear Prayers are sent for those still here.

Suicide leaves the immediate family suffering greatly as most of them will be blaming themselves for not seeing the signs or not  being there to head off the ultimate decision. Having gone thru this with a younger brother,,6 years later,,,,,I still find myself wondering how I did not see so much turmoil he must of been going thru to take his own life. He always seemed to Love Life,,its hard to understand what night of made him do this.
May PEACE be with all those who suffer and grieve for those that are no longer with us.

Prayers going out for you and his family.

Had the neighbor behind us do that. His wife passed away and he just couldn't live without her. Sad.

Scary part of this are those that just turn quiet and disappear from view, no mention, no hint and either shoot, suffocate or poison themselves to end their suffering. Sad thendrix, condolences on the loss of a friend, always hard.

Tyler, prayers for his family and for you also. Like Joe says we never know what is going on inside a person's head. I pray that he got to know Christ before it was too late. Suicide is especially hard on the person's family and friends because they are always wondering if there were signs that they missed.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

Can you begin to imagine the sadness in a persons mind to lead them to commit suicide. I'd rather be sick with cancer. But put your faith in the healing sacrifice of Jesus Christ that someday soon these things will cease to occur.    Leon.

One of the mysteries of life is when someone takes their own life. We can contemplate why but will never truly know. I can only offer my condolence and pray that God's embrace helps the Family and Friends.

I look at it wrong I guess, but I think how brave one would have to be to go through with it. Mike was a classmate of mine. We lost him to the demons in his head. He put a rope around his neck and stepped off of a chair. My grandpa's brother took a bullet to the head after he put one up through the ceiling. I don't remember him, but I sure do remember seeing the hole in the ceiling that a .45 can make.

From the movie Finding Forrester, "The rest of those who have gone before us cannot steady the unrest of those to follow". Hard times these are. No answers for our questions, only best guesses. We on this side of the line can't understand their daily suffering. And it seems to me these thing happen more so at night in darkness when they are alone. It has been a long gray winter and it shows no sign of letting up any time soon. But I promise, spring will come and robins will be back in our yards before long. Stay strong. Prayers from Iowa.
