The issues on our ‘91 F350 diesel, we acquired back in October.
First, the turn signal stalk is very sloppy, along with the tilt steering bearings. It’s my understanding the electrical power for the signals, and running lights runs thru the signal mechanism? Also the cruise control will not turn on, supposedly this condition ‘may’ be caused by this same worn out mechanism? And related to the cruise control, there is a fault light indicator displaying ‘Rear Antilock’. |

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

It is called the MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH... and controls the turn signals, flashers and wipers / washer...... if it is loose or worn out, it is possible to effect the cruse.
Anti lock brakes normally have a speed sensor in the rear pumpkin and each from wheel.. I have had that rear sensor get gummed up with metalic dust / crud floating in the "old worn out gear lube" that does not allow it to count bull gear teeth properly.. Also possible the sensor just crapped out... Dont cost much and easy to change.

i think when you turn the key ON, the computer runs a continuity test to the rear and front ABS sensors to see that they are connected ( and wires good).. after a few seconds the light goes OUT... telling you the WIRES and SENSOR have a complete circuit... Put in gear and start moving.. after you get above 5 MPH if the light comes back ON, then the computer does not see the SIGNAL from the back.. Sensor failed or covered with metal powder so it cant COUNT TEETH..

A sloppy steering column will cause problems with anything that is controlled by anything on the steering wheel or turn signal/high beam stalk, shouldn’t mess with the rear antilock though. Best bet may be replacing the whole column.

The ‘Rear Antilock’ lights comes on with the ignition, and stays on after starting. It’s very possible the sensor is shot, the truck has 131,000 miles on the odometer. This old girl has the high beam button on the floor, the wiper controls are a knob on the dash, the radio controls are actually on the radio!! WOO HOO!!!
