I expect most every one has recently had issues with MS latest take over of their PHOTOS app. I had used Photos forever and got to where I was familar somewhat with using it especially to resize my photos. MS has recently deleted Their "PHOTOS" app and installed "MICROSOFT PHOTOS LEGACY" app in its place. I first noticed it a couple of days ago and have yet to understand how to resize photos to conform with web sites that will only accept a certain size to guard their bandwidth. What you THEN have to accept with the new app is that all photos will then be transferred by MS to their ICloud,,,,!!! I talked on phone with a CS agent from APPLE.com last night for 1 hour and 31 minutes and she could NOT figure her way thru this new app in order to find how to resize any pics!! She finally gave up after 1 hour and a half and suggested I contact MS. I did a "System Restore" thinking I could get around this BS,,but after signing back in afterwards,,,,there is that frigging MS PHOTOS LEGACY app again,,,!! Has anyone seen this yet? And how to get around this BS,,,????

Joe, I sent you a PM, so check your inbox.... Cause you're one of my 'bestest buddies', and also one of the original 'misfits'.....I'm givin you first shot at this one.... This will cure some of your problems as all you do is choose a size you want the pic to come out as and bingo!! Let me know how well you get along with it and if it's the cats meow,,,,,,,,I'll write it up for everyone else to try out.

I use Imguar or paint for mine. any re-size is a crock. MOST forums have a built in resizer so all you gotta do is toss in whatever you have and it does the rest!

I had WIN 7 and had my OWN FILE on the Desk Top with DOCUMENTS on one and PHOTOS in the other... I got new computer with WIN 11 , 2 months ago. FIRST thing i did was DELETE the MS PHOTOS and MS DOCUMENT, and transfer MY FILES from my desktop to the new computer.. YEA, everytime i download photos from my camera, MS pops up and wants to put them in the MS PHOTOS file... I just skip that and put EVERYTHING Into my Desk Top file called MY PHOTOS..... I have been using MS PAINT for 20 years to resize photos and add TEXT titles if needed... WIN 11 PAINT works a little different, but still does that job..
I also looke on You Tube on how to ELIMINATE a DOZEN MS APPS that are in WIN 11 that i dont want and dont need... Dont get "recommendations"... "ideas"...."use cloud"..." Photos and Docs"... all that BULL CHIT went away... Also turned off EDGE and use CHROME for all internet. Very happy with WIN 11 at this point.... it cleans up old files, deletes old updates, keeps track of backup copies , automatically..... i let it "check for upgrades", but i manually install those as needed once a month. I bought a 300 MB external hard drive off AMAZON for $16. and it comes with a USB cable.. Plugged it in and told WIN 11 to make a BACKUP and RESTORE file every sunday.. Happens automatically, i dont do anything..... that BACKUP takes the place of "the cloud" for me !!

Great Ideas,,Steve,,,! You know,,,the younger we get,,,the more we remember,,,,,?? Sometime ago,,,I done exactly the same thing when MS started their headlong aim to capture everybody's pics and esconse them on their hated cloud,,,for Safety, you understand,,,,SO, catching a glimpes of things to come,,I bought a 1 terabite external hard drive to hide my photos from MS,,,,and promptly forgot it,,,!!! SO, out of that drawer it comes and Now,, has to go to work to receive all my pics that I know where they might be,,,,

The more I hear about how NOTgreat Win11 is, the happier I am having stuck with Win10 and 'stoptheupdates' program. Having ANYTHING is the 'cloud' is seriously flawed. Your data is no longer on YOUR computer. I'm waiting for a 'super storm' to hit the 'cloud' and 100s of millions of users will have LOST FOREVER their data. |

Well,Jay,,I've never liked the idea of my photos, data,,anything being on somebody elses computor as that is what the cloud really is cause then they can and most likely will hold you hostage at some point,,,, I faintly remember some incidents like that years ago where lots of people had to pay to get their stuff back and many lost out all together. Those that do hold History in their hands CAN and WILL always try to repeat itself,,!! The external hard drive "MAY" go south as well but it will be at your residence. I think MS could have given people the option of deciding for themselves but,,,,,,

This is what my Desktop looks like in WIN 11... Very simple.. I made new files for PHOTOS and DOCUMENTS and keep them handy on the desktop.. Very few files on the desktop... At the bottom is the START / Search / File Manager/ Snip / and Chrome (internet).... Keep a calendar on the lower right that shows birthdays and yearly items... Use the calendar in GOOGLE / MAIL for day and weekly appointments / grandkids games, etc.

now Steve, IF you want to have 'fun', get the DOW (Day Of the Week) to be displayed in the lower right at all times........ FYI, Whenever I download ANYTHING from the internet, it goes ONTO the desktop. If allows me to CONFIRM I DID get it and THEN I can put where I want it to go....

yes Jay... EVERYTHING i down load goes on the Desktop for INSPECTION... then stored in a file of my choice.... and the CALENDAR ( third party) in the corner shows a BLUE SQUARE for todays day... and the TIME and DATE are at the very bottom, supplied by WIN 11.
WIN 11 does include a calendar that can be shrunk and stuck in the lower right corer.. BUt i have heard it is part of WIN EDGE and i dont want to get that started !! ... I have had this 3rd party calendar for 20 years and has all the family birthdays / anniv / etc stored on it. Edited by steve(ill) - 13 Oct 2024 at 4:18pm |

Well,,,I HAVE HAD IT with my present desktop and I am going to look at getting one of the "Restored" desktops from Walmart.com,,,!! This sob threw another shoe yesterday when I was trying to move some of my photos to my new folders on my desktop,,, I'm still undecided on win10 or win11,,as I am very familar with win10 and I'm too much like an old dog that don't likes new tricks,,,,"sometimes",,,,
