Another tractor to consider for Allis backup, there’s a Case 1370. In some ways, preferable to that White, (cheaper, closer).

Can you still get parts for them ? Thoughts and experiences with them?

There's a reason they are cheaper. They are known for Power Shift and rear end troubles. Can sometimes be kind of a money pit. What's wrong with the 7045 ??

The biggest problem with the 7045 is it’s the only tractor of that size I have! I’ve always wanted/ known I need a backup, and boy now is the time.

I think it’s an injector? Misses sometimes. Was missing, running rough at startup but usually cleared pretty quickly. Getting worse, lasting longer. First day of working ground, warmed up and ran great. Second day not so much. While under load, can’t say I detected a miss, but it didn’t seem…..right. Slightly low on power maybe . However on the lift and turn around with no load, it would miss and sputter and flutter.

Late last year, if you let it low idle too long, it would load up and sputter pretty bad when you revved up, but would clear. That was a new behavior. I just picture a poor injector pattern and unburned fuel and now it’s progressed to this level. I’m no expert for sure.

No plans to give up on Allis, but I need to be in the FIELD, not working on something I know very little about.

They’re asking $6500 for the Case. If it could yank my stuff around and I could get $4000 for it I’d be money ahead. I can’t find anything to rent, I’m picturing it as rent!

If the Case is a runner, I'd get it and get the job done. As Dr said, they are known for PS issues, but you may not have it long enough to worry about it. Worse thing guys would do with them is hang lots of weight, and fill the tires up, then turn up the hp. The 504 is a torque monster anyway, then locking it to the ground is just asking for disaster. The 45 doesn't sound like a serious issue either. Get the inj out and have them serviced, hopefully it's got a split tip, then it'll be back ready too.

Agreed that the 7045 sounds like injector then? Likely never been touched and not a bad place to start…

I had a neighbor that was very mechanically inclined. Farmer mostly but wrenched on equipment for others and an excellent fabricator. Talking with him over the years we would talk about different tractors and he would point out the strong and weak points of each. In his conversations he had positive points of ever tractor except Case. He HATED Deere’s but would admit they had positives but not Cases. He asked me list who ran Case when I was a kid in the 80’s so I rattled off the names then he asked what do they have in common????   The answer all are out of business. Other thing that stuck in mind a buddies dad had a small cow calf operation and raised fruit. This gentleman bought a Zetor loader tractor and every time I talked to him he commented how much better it was than the old Cases it replaced. John scraped by on pretty rough iron if he cursed the Cases that much that said a lot.

To me, having the injector(s) fixed is a Hell of a lot cheaper than spending $6500 on another Tractor where Gremblins could be lerking. The 7045 doesn't sound real serious to me, I would find out what's wrong with it, fix it and get it back into service. JMHO....

Well yeah, sure. But how long does it take to have injectors serviced? Then what if that’s not all? May 16, hardly a seed in the ground, guys are just getting going working dirt after Saturday and Monday rains. Sort of emphasizes the need for backup I’ve had all along. At this point on the calendar, I don’t have time to tinker and putter around.

with planting starting, there might be a few "extra" mechanics around. Might be worth paying one to come "look and listen".. then pull injectors and take back to shop and reset / repair..

1370 might help you thru ok? Depends? It’s cheap for lots of reasons. Here’s a weblink about transmission issues & things to check before buying ~ delayed movement, 4th gear stall, etc…

If you operate it an hour, a day, a week, or a month; you’re going loose some of your hearing. Even with a new muffler, they’re LOUD!! And it’s not all engine noise. Transmission noise is bad too! So DO use good quality ear protection.

IMO, Spend your dollars & time on your 7045’s fuel system(injectors, etc).

Nothing wrong with 1370, case 504 is great engine. The three speed semi powershift is the main area for problems, nothing new there tho ,power director,powershift ,torqe amplifier,under/over,they are all the weakest spot on a abused tractor. Hop on the case and run the powershift through each selection with gearbox in neutral. Should make the motor drop a few revs with each shift through,reverse should make more load on motor and make a high pitched noise. If that is all good go for a run and check that it shifts with a bit of a jerk at each shift at high revs.

Also watch trans pressure gauge,it should be in the green and just blip down and straight backup again when you do each shift.

Well I think I’ll pass. Though I have no experience, I’d say the shifting test passed. I couldn’t notice a blip in the pressure gauge but you could hear it in the engine, and more so in R. On the go shift had a nice positive little jerk to it. Someone had left the radio on, which was still playing but not enough juice to turn the engine over. Just a little jump box connected to it and it started up great and sounded good.

Reason for passing is a couple. First thing is there’s a pretty significant leak between the tranny and rear end housing. Tractor is only used on a few acres (4) and the guy said he puts 15 gallons in it in the spring and then keeps it topped off from there. Then, steering. Not only did the steering column feel like it was going to fall in my lap, but occasionally the tractor would become hard to steer. Wasn’t ever very easy to steer but would tighten up. Hyd oil level was at a functional level.

So yeah, was hoping to find a hidden gem but no such luck. Thanks all for the input.

Steering column is wear and tear,the tightness is the column bushes,they will drag and make steering hard. very simple rebuild ,just have to pull column apart. But oil leak would be a challenge for sure.

Friend of mine has one, rear end looks to be heavy duty but the hydro went out of it. He has purchased a gear transmission and is in the process of changing it out. He said the 504 has a lot lugging power.

Yeah, maybe. But it also flops horribly to the right side like something that mounts it is broken or nearly so. The guy did say it came off on him a few times ago and a friend “rigged” it. That part no so much the deal breaker. Have you seen the price of universal oil lately?!

If your leaking 15 gallons in a season of SMALL operation, you would THINK it would be worth looking at and figuring out what was leaking ?  Hard to have two housings that BOLT together face to face and have that kind of leak, unless cracked , loose bolts, or a hole ?
