I bought a case 5100 drill about 3 years ago. I really like the machine but last year I noticed a row not planting. This spring I found a tube plugged. I figured I fixed that problem.

Well today as I was picking rocks I noticed my drill did a very poor job. Most of the field turned out well but I still have a lazy row. It might plant half the pass then quit for 100 feet then go back to planting.

That doesn't bother me as much as further down the field I noticed it pretty much quit planting all together on the headland and around the waterway. You can see a few discs had planted but not many.

What should I be looking for? Some maintenance that I over looked? I sure hope my beans don't turn out this ugly.

Stupid thing is it didn't plant poorly till the end of the oats field.

check for spider webs/nests in the tubes.

If you are talking about the small seed box, I took the tubes and the tin guide shoes off and let drop through drill. This works fine for alfalfa and most grasses. I may design something with the clear tubes in the future that drop in with the large seed so I can see it. Just a thought

I always blow air though all the holes at a wide open setting. I had to rebuild the bushings in the front with steel ones that hold down pressure some years ago on that I believe 1 1/4” bar. The originals were plastic and wore out(bad design). If the machine is clean and adjusted correctly, they do a nice job.

If those bushings are bad would that give me the intermittent planting?

Like I say it didn't plant maybe 2 rows and not the rest on the headland and around the waterway.

Also had that lazy row.

My first thought is something was plugged or ran out of grain. Second thought would be planting condition. Since the planters are semi independent, I would look at depth and soil compaction setting all the way back to the press wheels. I have had to adjust these to get the correct pressure. Those bushings wore out 25 years ago and replaced because everything for pressure started there.

Another critical point to look at, the lower control bar may have hopped off the front pivot point. I have knocked it off before and replaced some parts on (1) unit from hitting a rock in the field. You really only notice it when your in the field planting because when lifted, it falls back in place. That would cause a poor plant condition as well.
