Yeah.Got home 3 days ago.8 days since surgery. Anyone have any hints to get over the worst of the healing process? Will I be able to chuck square bales if I give it a year off?

holy buckets! glad you are still with us! do what Doc says, and maybe it won't take to long to get back in the saddle again! neighbor had that done, matter of fact...he was at his mothers funeral and started having problems, someone at the funeral grabbed him and took him to the hospital, he had the surgery that night. that was this past winter, he's back at work now driving a tractor. you take care and keep us posted...prayer for you and your family

Thank God your still with us. The healing process will take some time, (months) but if all else is well, should be able to do most anythi8ng, within reason. Just listen to your Doc and don't try to accelerate healing process. People that do usually pay for it forever.

Holy'ist chit Guy,!!,,quadruple means you had some serious blockages and that means you gots to plan on some serious eating habits changes from here on out,,,,! That right there is what you gonna find harder to follow cause we all like them groceries that caused them blockages to start with,,,,,, BUT,,it can be done,,,!!! I expect the Dr had you talk with a nutritionist to let you know what to eat and what NOT TO,,you really need to be faithful to that. Good Luck ,,,OH and what is your age,,?? OH,,and welcome to the group and we expect some regular updates,,,,

Thanks guys.
I am 65 and had a triple stent installed 12 years ago. My family has a genetic weakness and both my brother and I have had heart attacks. Same with dad and grandpa. A slam in the gut happened just 3 days after my heart attack when my brother(62) had a massive coronary and died in his sleep. I am no philosopher but this weighs on my mind.

DAYUM BiA, this is NOT fun nor funny, glad to hear you are at least still kicking and doing 'well'. Follow the PT schedule, work at it and keep advancing on it a little stronger with each week. Know all too many that back off as 'TOO Hard' but that is the point, push a little hard and get better. Mind the diet but the exercise will be the best.

Sorry to hear of your brothers passing. I can kind of understand your feelings. You may be moving hay bales a year from now but forget the chucking them! Take care and get lots of rest! PM me if you need to talk. Regards, Chris

Bill, praise the Lord you are still with us. Good advice given so far - good exercise regiment, diet changes, and stick with them both persistently. Sorry about the loss of your brother.

I will offer you some strong advice - based on personal experience. I had a double bypass and one heart valve replaced just last July. Do not - I repeat - do not even attempt to lift anything heavy. The chest breast bone is slow to heal, and you certainly don't want to pull it apart. Strictly follow your doctors instructions. You MUST support your chest when you cough or sneeze. I found that a kidney belt around your chest and over a small pillow worked well. You will only have to sneeze once without holding your chest to see how pain full it is. Start walking as soon as possible. Minimum once in morning and once in afternoon. Log each walk - date, time, distance, length of time. You will be surprised how quickly you will gradually improve. It will probably be at least 6 months before you actually start to feel better, but is DEFINITELY worth the task. Good Luck Gary |

Thank the good Lord you're still here and good luck with your continued recovery. I can give some pointers based on my dad's experience. About 2 months after dad's surgery the neighbors across the road went to a sale barn & bought some yearling calves. 2 got out of the corral. We live above a large creek bottom with lots of woods in the area. A group of us with 1 Jeep, 1 UTV, & a few of us on foot chased those 2 calves over a good half mile plus square of unplanted fields, pastures, fence rows, etc. Dad was watching, drove his pickup to the end of the lane & watched. He started following us around in the pickup. I noticed he'd gotten out of the pickup & was walking. Told him to take it easy. He impolitely told me that he'd take it easy when he darn will felt like it. So I shut up. Soon I noticed Dad walking back to the pickup. From then on he followed us in his pickup, occasionally getting out to lean on the fender & watch us make fools of ourselves. 2 months later, 4 months after the surgery, I went to check on Mom & Dad on a Saturday afternoon & found him weed eating along the machine in the heat. A year after the surgery he was doing great with no restrictions due to his heart or the surgery. My advice is to gradually increase your level of physical activity while paying attention to what your body tells you. Good luck!

I had a quad bypass the first of september. The Main thing is to adhere to the weight restriction, mine was to lift no more than 5# for the first 3 months, then 25# for another 2 months. I was told not to drive for those first 3 months, which meant car, lawn mower and tractor, because any torque on your sternum could cause it to break loose, and they said that would be a very difficult repair, and likely never be as strong as it once was. Be sure and do the cardiac therapy, either at home or rehab. I'm pretty much back to normal now,and feel a lot better, except I have allergies, and it still hurts to sneeze.Dr.said it probably always would because of the wires, but sure beats the alternative

Dad was a real trooper in following through with cardiac rehab & physical therapy. He had 5 rib fractures & a lacerated liver from a fall in the machine shed when he landed on the shaft of the tail wheel on a rotary mower. The mower won, his ribs lost. Later had a knee replacement. All the physical therapists praised his tenacity & hard work. He was a WWII vet. Those guys were tough!

Bill in Alberta, that is great news to hear that your doing so good. Keep it up and by summer, you prolly be doing things again that the docs tell you that you shouldn't be doing. ;-)
