Looks to be in decent shape, pretty straight and well looked after. Pinion is not showing too much wear. The track chain is always the question. Worn chains, are prone to fall off at bad times. Also no fun to put on when they do walk off which is always in the worst place. That said, it looks to be worth the asking price and probably more to a collector. As you mentioned, you can try it and if you find it small for your needs, it would be fairly saleable, and you probably would not be out much for trying it. Heck, its an Allis. Get it home, and then see what you want to do

Covers pins, bushings, rail height, lower roller diameters, front idlers, carrier roller,rear sprockets and tensioners...

Well guys, a rather significant blunder was made on my part. When I talked to him initially, it was via telephone, and he mentioned he was selling it and wanted $2,500, or so I thought. I was in kind of a bad reception area, and I thought he said $2,500, but upon clarification today, he really is asking $4,500. That’s the price he’d want from most people, but said he’d cut me a deal at $3,200 since we’ve been such good friends for the last 10 years or so. He bought the dozer for $3,800 and shipping was another $1,500, so I know how he feels when he wants to recoupe his losses there. I’ll have to have it shipped to the farm anyway, as my trailer barely hauls the 8N. So there’s more expense there. Right now it’s just not in my budget for all that, so I’m beginning to doubt I’ll buy it. But...I’m going to give myself a couple days to think it over some more. JW...it’s still at his house, just a stones throw from me. Tell Clarissa she can come give me a crawler lesson anytime

Well that does change everything, they are kinda rare in this part of the country but that's getting into the gotta have it to finish out the collection or family crawler kinda price.

Take your time and check it out well. It could pay for itself in no time at all.
I don't know what a stones throw is for you, but that's just across the road for me. (I'd tear my shoulder out) If you've got help and it's not that far, you can put planks down and run across em. Put em in front and then go and as you go forward, you just pick them up from behind and put em in front again. Slow going but it works...

$700 not that much difference, if that sounds like a lot you should probably stay clear of old dozers it sounded a bit too good to be true at 2500 to take serious, I would have ran to get money you still wouldn't be hurt

I will send Shameless over to help you move it. The 2 perfect days are close Christmas and New Years morning at sun up, everybody is opening gifts or asleep. You just go right down the road.
Its 30 years ago now but a wahoo took a D6 and 18 foot dag disc 2 or 3 miles( no wheels) down the super 2 lane highway. Never got in any trouble, cause many would like if he did.
I have walked a D6, 7 miles from one place to another, 7 mile on the road this was jeep trails and across pastures so it was a bit more miles. I went over a bunch of hill and 6 or 8 gates in less than 3 hours.So if a stones throw is the same in OK I would look at trying to drive it. I use conveyor belting to cross "delicate" oil sealed gravel roads good asphalt is not damaged by a crawler as light as a M. For the big celebration in town called Pioneer Days every year they take 20 to 30 crawlers down main street. All the way up to Cat 60's that would be about 4 times bigger than a M. They go slow and don't turn short, just little white marks from the grousers. No rubber pads or wood blocks just regular working cleats.
