Here's a 1955 model that we're trying to finish in time for Dale's show. My big plans to have our G done, has been hit by the restoration demons...bad voodoo including a cracked block and a bad gear in the tranny, ugh!
Anyway, we switched to the 45. This is a great original piece, that will retain its 6V system. It's being refinished with DuPont acrylic enamel, ceramic coated muffler, F&H 161 weights, and lots more. My wife told me if she catches me with the credit card again...I'll be shot on sight! Ahhh...she's just teasing, I think? This 45 will make an excellent tractor drive candidate, with whisper quiet final drives on a tractor that has apparently had a sheltered past. It is for sale...here's a pic from this weekend, and I'll post follow-ups.

Eddie,,a couple of years ago I had my WD at Dale's and told some guy's there I was going to put the electrical BACK to 6 volts Positive ground. I had several guys tell me I'd be sorry and should leave it 12 volts. That's been two years ago, my tractor sits outside, and so far the ONLY time I've had to jump it it when it was 14 degrees out and I flooded it. I'm glad I went back original!

please excuse my ignorance, but wanting very badly to restore one of my two tractors, the painting part is holding me back..i can do the mechanical work no problem but painting scares me, i keep thinking i have to disassemble and paint everything seperate or it will crack and peel...so i am curious, when the above tractor is painted mostly together like that, when the moving parts(clutch, throttle, etc) move for the first time with paint dry doesn;t it crack and flake off? once again please excuse my ignornace just trying to find out, tractor looks very good though, love that bright shiny orange!

Jeff...generally the main reason for paint peeling, is when the metal isn't cleaned properly. I like to use Purple Power that I get at TSC, to get the heavy stuff off, and wash the tractor down again with a paint prep solvent ( wax and grease remover). Most of your clearances on the moving parts are enough that it won't let the paint bridge over the gaps and cause it to peel . Painting is the easy part...but the prep work defines how well the paint looks.

wanna know the best Pre-paint cleaner? Oven Cleaner....it takes ALL grease off....worked well so far for me....did my Powerstroke's frame with it, and also my WD45 that is being prepped for paint.....also make sure you PRIME EVERYTHING.....if you dont the paint will fall off.

When they were painted new they were almost completly assembled. The wiring and all was on them. JP

i seen that wd45 promo video on youtube and it showed a guy painting, he didn;t care what he sprayed it looked like! thanks for the info guys ...now to only get the damn things to stop leaking...i think they leaked from the factory?!
