For storage over winter, is it better to have a full tank or empty to minimize rusting?

Full, less space for condensation.

I think it depends on where you live. Hubert has a lot of high humidity in his area.. Where i live the humidity is very low in the winter. I like to keep the tanks as low a possible to keep the posibility of gas going bad.. Normally gas in our area is good for several months ( even the 10% ethanol)... but i run the tanks low, then put a couple gallons back in during april / may and fire them up for the summer.. Never have a carburetor plugging problem. .. also have pretty good luck with no oxidizing of the magneto point... They just fire up after setting 5-6 months..

Got a CASE 530 backhoe with a distributor.. do the same with it.. it can set 6 months at a time, no problems.

Factors other than humidity come into play. I bought an old Cat had been sitting in a barn out in a country that only averages about 8 inches of rain a year. I have relatively low humidity at my place 50 miles west with 20 inches of rain average. So this had to be lower humidity yet. I have never seen rust like this tank had. An L shaped tank and over 2/3 full of old time diesel that burned just fine once filtered from the rust. But a very good example of what happens to tanks not full of fuel.
