8000 steering motor?

I have a mechanic friend who wanted me to post this. He is installing a new seal or seal kit maybe, on the steering motor. I haven’t seen what he’s working on, but he’s under the opinion that even if he puts the seal in, it probably won’t hold and it’ll still leak. He’s wondering if anybody has done any retrofit on these to put new life in them.

I've never installed the whole seal kit. Just the quad-seal and anything related to the input shaft area where the leak always is.

Did an 8070 and F2 Gleaner as Doc says. No leaks.....

The 8000 series used a little different top seal than most others. I has a couple of Teflon pieces with an o-ring rather than just a quad ring. Normally just unbolt the steering motor and leave the hoses alone. Take the top cap off and replace the sealing parts.

I talked to my mechanic friend again and he’s thinking the shaft going out of the steering motor might have some scarring that might allow it to leak. Can a new shaft be had for it?

I'm not there to look at the shaft, so I can't really comment about the scarring on your machine. I have personally never seen any scarring in the shaft seal area on the ones that I've worked on. There's really nothing there to scar it, as far as I know.  If you needed a new shaft, I'd be looking for a complete unit from salvage, if it were mine.
