I need to replace the joystick on my 6080, it is plumbed into the tractor hydraulics. I have a second joystick from a different loader that I never used or any idea what the loader came off of, it has lines that run from joystick to the remote outlets. I want to mount the second joystick, remove the lines going to the remotes and plump it into the tractor hydraulics. Are all joysticks compatible? Anything I need to know before I think about changing them and maybe damaging the tractor hydraulics?

As long as its open center i dont see anything it could hurt but id make sure it is open center. If its closed center as soon as youbstart the engine all oil would have to go through the relief valve. Of course it cant work like that. Thats the only advice i can give you at this point

Thanks, that is what I was wondering about. how do know the difference between open and closed valves?

I could figure it out if i had it. Ti tell you how to fugure it out is something else. The quickest way probably is to take a air blower and a rag and hold it in the inlet port. Rag is to seal it up the best you can. If air passes through the valve with little resistance it open center. If it builds pressure and forces the blower out in your hand its closed

According to tractor data dot com it’s open center. Right or wrong I’ve been told older are open. If it was mine I’d take the seat out, the tin under the seat out, and finally remove the couple bolts that mount the valve stack down. Then I’d find the line going into the stack and the line coming out and put a tee in each.
But that’s just me.

Finally got time to check the joystick on the unused loader I have, I did as 8070nc suggested and air will not blow through it, so I guess it is a closed center joystick. As for the joystick that is mounted on the 6080 now, it is plumbed into the hydraulic system under the floor. the joystick on the tractor leaks and I was hoping i could replace it with the extra one. Oh well, thaanks!

how does the joystick leak ? does the spool valves operate with pilot lines ?
