Hi, I'm new here. I've got an 115kW Allis Chalmers 3-phase generator driven by an Allis Chalmers 11000 turbo diesel engine that I'd like to sell. I'm told the generator ran when it was stored but that was 10+ years ago (so I'd assume 20). This forum appears to be more centered on farm tractors but I thought the 11000 block, or other parts could be used as parts? This unit is designed to run at 1800rpm so I'd assume the governor and other equipment is different. Any interest? It is near Colorado Springs, CO. It's all trailer mounted. I bought it for the trailer so it could be removed and had for super cheap, or trade for a similar trailer. Basically I don't want it to go to scrap if I can find a better home. I have not use for this large of a generator and have no interest in fixing it up to resell. ![]() ![]() Edited by jeffroboboto - Yesterday at 12:02pm |

Maintained one like this for many years. Not a bad set but like anything, parts availability are the reason it was taken out of service. Most older gensets I maintained were converted from the original hydraulic governors, (Usually Woodward) to aftermarket Eaton, AMBAC, or PSI in later years. I think the only engines smoother running than an 11000 are either a Continental, or Chrysler flathead six, Detroit V-12 diesel, or a couple of Waukesha engines that slip my mind.
The block, head, and internals will all be usable for most anything. Should have an SAE flywheel, and housing on the engine rear and pretty standard items on the front. Oil cooler will be different as will manifolds and such. Starting system 24VDC, or 32VDC in that size units.

Nice trailer, but for what it would take to put it into service as a flatbed trailer, you are still going to have to spend some money. Additional crossmembers along with a floor if your going to use it just to haul general items.
If a person was interested, would you pick out a trailer on the local market and just swap it for the generator if the buyer pays for the local trailer? An interested party could fly into Colorado Springs, rent a Penske or Ryder heavy duty pickup and haul it home. If 8070nc was more than slightly interested, there are other methods of moving that tailer instead of him having to make a 3500 mile round trip. (probably Burning about $1500 in fuel alone)! Have the trailer axles serviced, new tires and a license plate and it is ready to roll. There are people who look for items such as this to move to help offset fuel, and if time isn't a huge concern, it can be moved closer within a few months. I typically go to SE Arkansas on a regular basis to visit family and would love for someone to pick up my fuel costs just to pull a trailer behind one of my diesel pickups. David from jax

8070nc- Road trip! If only diesel prices weren't so high.
Codger- Thanks for the info/thoughts. Parts availability factors into why I don't want to get deep into this, and why I think it could be worth more as parts. My 5 minute inventory lead me to believe its a 24v starting system and fuel supply. sandman2234- The trailer is well suited for my use, but I'm not married to it and a variety of trailers would work for me. Just letting people know where I place the value to facilitate a potential deal. If somebody was semi-local it could make sense to tow it to there place, remove equipment, and return the trailer. Somebody else might have a suitable trailer to trade me. Outside of that I think selling the whole package for cash and I'll go find another trailer makes sense. I'm about a 100 miles from where I stored it. I popped the dust cap off one hub and the grease looks old but no rust or other issues. I plan to grease the hubs before I tow it, a buys should do the same. I also have some wheels with newer (10year old) 265/75R16LT tires I want to see if they'll fit. I would recommend new tires for a longer tow. |
