After I have my d17 running for awhile it will start to spit and sputter. Pull the choke some it will smooth out a little.. I feel like it's getting something hot.. what could it be?

Pretty vague description of your problem and posted in the wrong place. When's the last time it had a tune-up?? spark plugs, points/condenser?? Have you removed the sediment bowl glass and turned on the petcock fully??.... there should be two streams of fuel gushing from the base. If not, the base needs to be removed from the tank bottom and cleaned out because it's plugged. Is the problem while just sitting still running or while you are pulling a load????????????
