I thought one type was called pioneer, don't know what the older couplers were called.

Balls are usually Pioneer brand. Points used to be Bruning. Your results may vary.

After 60 years, who knows what's on some of these tractors. It could have John Deere couplers on it for all I know.

Do you have any hydraulic cylinders that are used on the D21.?  I'd take 1 of those ends off its hose and use it.

look at the end of the MALE piece.. does it have a BALL or a TIT on it... that tells you something...Most are interchangable, but the BALL is old style... Then take a caliper to comfirm " barrel size"  of various  1/2" or 3/4" types..... couple different versions... see below...

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

this is what GOOGLE said....... 1/2 inch PIONEER 4000 series ..ISO 5675 Agricultural

The Allis-Chalmers 180 tractor typically used 1/2-inch body, Pioneer-style agricultural hydraulic couplers (often referred to as ISO 5675 or ball-style connectors).

  • OEM Part Number: The male coupler tip specifically for the 180 is often identified with the Allis-Chalmers part number 247336V or 247336.
  • Compatibility: This coupler style is standard for many Allis-Chalmers models from that era, including the 170, 175, 180, 185, 190, and 7000 series.

I've had uncommonly good luck by grabbing whatever by local TSC or Runnings had in stock.

I've used poppet and ball interchangeably, for better or worse, and they've worked.

I'd say unless it came from a majority green farm or looks modern, the pioneer ag coupler will work.
