    Posted: 10 Aug 2017 at 2:43pm
Good afternoon all!  New member and first time poster here.  I found an AC for sale on CL but the current owner doesn't know the model of it.  He took it in trade and was told it's a 40hp tractor. It runs (needs a new starter and battery), and the 3pt and PTO work. I am going to look at it saturday but I'm trying to figure out what it is and if it's worth the trip (4 hour drive one way).  Looking on tractordata I think it's a 6140 but I thought I'd ask if anyone with more experience than I would hazard a guess.  Thanks for your assistance!! James

That looks like a Belarus to me as I have not seen very many foreign made Allis's to know for sure if it is an Allis
I support the development of hybrid automobiles and alternative fuels as I need DIESEL fuel for my ALLIS CHALMERS!

Looking at side by side pics of a 6140 and this tractor they look identical except for the hood.  Maybe someone swapped a hood on it that was not an AC hood?

Yes, possibly a modified 5040.  You can buy a good 5040 for $2200-$2500.

Definitely not a  5040.It could be a Taft which was sort of a knock off Massey Ferguson.
$800 sounds pretty good for a diesel tractor that runs and operates.

Can he take a picture of the name plate? Serial number and all.  That would tell me more than any picture of the sheet metal.

IMT looks like a MF knockoff, headlights are set about middle of the grill.  The headlights on this one are set at the top.  The only similar hood I can find is on a Allis-Deutz

Step on each side of the operators platform is identical to a AC... UTB doesn't have the same step on similar models... I've asked for data plate information but nothing yet

The sheet metal is certainly not AC. I look more like UTB due to the sheet metal, especially the high mounted headlights.

It kinda looks like a 6140.
The outer grille sheet metal appears to be missing and the hood metal looks "customized".
The gas tank sheet metal and the engine configuation looks about right.
Did the Japanese Mfgr. build essentially the same tractor for different brands?

The owner got back to me and said the data plate says it is a 6140. That hood looks different from any 6140 I've seen so far, makes me wonder where it came from

I think I've figured it out the dash is original to the 6140 and the hood and grill is off a 1040 or 1045 Massey Ferguson. That should solve the mystery.

I know that 5015's, 20's and 30's were sourced from toyosha, and so were the masseys of the same era, but am not sure if the 5040's are the same source as MF 1040-45...

I know the AC's were rebadged UTB's mfr'd by fiat...
