just used this tractor ten days ago. 1955 wd45. tried to start last friday and nothing, no sound or anything. battery good on tender, new starter two years ago, ignition rewired two years ago. thinking culprit may be the starter switch. any suggestions?? too cold to work on it right now but going to be nicer the end of the week.

Got a multi-meter, or a volt meter? 6v or 12v system?
Start right at the battery and check that you have voltage down stream all the way to the starter. Diesel of gas? I'm guessing it's a key starter and not the rod pull type? If it's a key start, do you have voltage coming INTO the switch? Coming OUT of the switch? Voltage AT the starter? We need more info. |

Don’t rule out the ground side of the circuit!

Well, if you know the Battery passes a draw test then your guess about the mechanical starting switch could be a possibility. Check your cables for good connections and make sure the ground cable is clean and making a good ground. The bitter cold weather plays havoc with electrical connections and operation.Steve@B&B

Go through and check all the wire connections and see if one is loose. Check the ground cable on the battery for corrosion.

On the mech. switches, the contact plates get worn/dirty and lose contact. I have 1 that went bad and I took it off and hit the post with cable and it started. Had to put a new switch on that one. If you have to get new switch, be sure to get the right one! There are 2 different ones and they are not interchangeable . thanks; ac fleet
