track loader sizes up with a 955 Cat?
I am prepairing my 2015 Christmas list for my wife?
I could get Dads 955 for the work that i have in mind but I might be able to convince my wife that we need to ad one to the collection down the road.

7G is about the same size/hp as a 951, mine fits that description. 955 is a good machine but a little low on HP by many users thoughts for the weight of machine. My 7G is getting hard to find pieces for, not much left in the yards for used and new is becoming non-existant, new rails/pads/pins are not being made. If I had it to do over I would probably have been better off to go to 951/955 for servicability but I have what I have and am happy enough with it.

are you talking about the old 955 without turbo and standard transmission or the 955 h with turbo or the newer 955k. a 7g and a 7gb is the best guess or mabey a fl9

Think either a FL7 or a FL9 will out work a 955 and 951 with no problem .

Matching pound for pound and the years of manufacture, would the HD11G tracked loader not be Allis`s closest match?

Not so worried if my Allis can outwork the cats, just keeping it working to outwork them is fast becoming a chore. I did run the 7G against a 955K, he was keeping up but was not having any fun at it(his comment). My starter gave out so he had his laugh as I await a rebuild on mine, he can get a exchange, the rebuilder did not have one for mine.

my dad had a old 955 with a pony start he bought at a sale it was heaver than the 6g hilift he had but that 6g would out work it anyday a 7g would run circles around it now the 955h was a lot like the 7g but i think the 7gb was a little faster.

955K and L series are shuttle shift predominantly, friend of mine has a L, it does make my 7G look anemic. Fewer hydraulics components(pumps, separate reservoirs) on the cats make them more vulnerable to low fluids levels/heat but less apt to lose a single system and be unuseable for a day chasing parts.

it funny you say that that 955 my dad bought busted the main hydrolic line under the seat and like you said it took all day to fix we took it to the cat place to get a whole new end replaced my dad was so mad it cost an entire days work for that. then the pony start clutch went out it was in the summer and school was letting out I was the starter for that loader the rest of the summer he just pulled it with the dump truck and when school started the old 6g got fixed and the 955 sold

Every time I hear the phrase "Pony Motor", I am reminded why I have AC crawler tractors.
