Restoring a 49 WD, would this use the blue or black hood decals? The other question I have is that I've heard some of the early ones didn't use the "WD" on the grill shell. Anybody have any info on this? Thanks, Mike

Long A and long S would be correct and I think black for 1949. edit - I couldn't find that it was black so it might have been blue letters.
Can someone verify the time of the long A long S change to straight across letters? edit - Home now and found the reference it says the straight letter decal was first drawn in January of 1950. No WD on the radiator in 1949, that didn't start until 1951. Edited by TomMN - 11 Apr 2012 at 4:56pm |

Long "A" and long "S" BLUE letters.....no "WD" because they were black and later on like 1952? maybe.

DrAllis is spot on. Allis Chalmers switched to the black, even lettering on the WD in early 1950, while the "WD" model designation was added in about June 1951. And PLEASE don't put a Power Crater decal on it!

Well, it isn't my tractor, but I'll tell the owner if I put a chrome hood ornament on it, it should be worth about $14,000.
