Hello, My D14 was leaking a lot of radiator fluid into the oil. I was thinking head gasket, but it and the heads look very good. An old GM mechanic friend of mine suggested the oil seals on the sleeves could be bad, so I dropped the oil pan.
I am not sure what I am looking at. What looks like cracks does not go into the water jacket. Is the goober looking stuff on the sleeve wall where it was leaking? IMAG2263_1.jpg

the liners look like a tube, with a lip on the top that is held DOWN by the head. The bottom end has a groove with an o-ring in it to seal the bottom end. The groove is up about 1/4 inch from the bottom...these get old and crack. It looks like someone has smeared JB weld or something on the very bottom either during install, or after install, to try to fix a small  leak in the o-ring.......... Head needs to come off and piston/ rod / liner come out to install new O-rings.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

The GROOVES are chisel marks... don't know why they did that.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Steve, the D 14 has the O"Ring grooves in the block and the sleeves are smooth in the O"ring area at the bottom.

It looks to me like someone in the past has tried to repair where the sleeve fits at the bottom.  I would want to strip the block to see what I was trying to repair. The only way I know of checking where the leak is would be to put the head back on and pressurize it full of water and watch from the bottom.  It might leak without pressure though which would be something to try by just filling the block with water.

Is that not a crack in the web between the two cylinders ? Not an expert but I thought I had always heard crack between cylinders on top side o k but not on bottom ? Leon

x2. There are those chisel marks, but there is also a crack. I'm trying to remember a trick to fixing that a guy told me about a long time ago....

I'll have to ask what the name of the stuff is, but the neighbor put some thing in his that sealed it.  it was something that he used when sealing a boiler.

One way to fix a crack is to drill and tap a bolt hole. Thread in the bolt and grind it off flush. Repeat the process but make sure you over lap the new holes on bolts you previously installed . Not sure if it would work in this case.

It looks like yours IS bad.  Put out a WTB (Wanted To Buy) and see what you come up with.  If it were me, I'd look into getting a complete running engine or just go out and buy another running tractor.  Then YOU'D have extra parts...

 I would put coolant in the water jacket and put a piece of clean something under the engine over night. If yours leaks you will see the drops on the clean surface. No need to put any pressure in the system gravity will do it for you. I do this test every time I put an engine together.

I have a couple 149`s and a 160, off pumping units ,one is free blocks should be good.
