My compressor has bit the dust. About 6 months old. How much oil would be needed in system if I replace the compressor, dryer and orifice tube? This compressor made a noise from startup. O'reillys parts. Thanks Tracy

Additionally, General Motors issues Bulletin # 02-01-39-004B replacing PAG 150 oil with a lower viscocity oil. Thus, TechChoice now indicates PAG 46 (P46D) oil for those vehicles.

when you install the compressor and any other parts.... you will then pull a complete VACUUM.... so you are starting from scratch... ZERO... don't matter how many parts you replace, you add the same quantity afterwards.

Steve, I wondered if the condenser and evaporator would trap any oil. I don't want to overfill oil amount. Thanks Tracy

Tracy, maybe try asking google.  As I foggily recall, pulling a vac will eliminate all moisture (water vapor).

I never recall my vac puking any oil out that was extracted from the system.

Just got back from google.  It seems that all fingers point to the info that came with the new compressor.  Says some come with the correct amount of oil already added to the compressor.

I guess if I removed the compressor and opened the hoses, I would be tempted to BLOW compressed air thru the system to make sure it was purged of any oil  / crap ... Then pulling the vacuum should get rid of any moisture.

actually, to do the job correctly, you should flush the system with an AC flush product before reassembly. Do that one time, and when you see the junk that comes out of that system and you will never do an AC job without flushing again. And, because you cannot properly flush the evaporator, many replace it also
