any advice on priming the fuel system on a 1975 hd 11,ran out of fuel now cant get it to the injectors,any help would be much appreciated

Cut a chunk out of an old inner tube, hose clamp it around the fuel fill hole, and add air pressure to the tank. (Don't overdo it- you'll blow the filters off)
If you can't do that, shut off the fuel return line at the tank and crank it over with the injector lines loose. If you can build pressure in the fuel return, then let it go, it will help bleed fuel out of the pump. If it is a Bosch pump, it can be troublesome to bleed out. 1975 should have a Roosa Master pump though- and hand primer. |

Get a a couple of fully charged batteries and keep cranking holding the gas pedal WOT. Loosen the injectors fuel line nuts and crank until fuel streams out consistently (air bubble free).
Ensure you have used the manual hand primer on lift pump (if equipped) to purge the low pressure side first loosening fitting prior to high pressure injector pump and at filters one at time starting at low points and moving through system until no air is apparent |

I'm guessing that you know more about dozers than I do, but on my 11E, my local guru didn't know the trick that I found. I'm not saying this process is correct, but it works for me every time.
I open the bleeder on the primary filter and gravity takes over. When fuel oozes out the top, I close it off. I open the bleeder on the secondary, but I have to crank the motor. I crank until fuels oozes out the top of the secondary. I replace the bleeder and that's it. My guru said that gravity would allow both filters to bleed of the air. I waited and waited and the secondary would not bleed off. So cranking is the trick for me. |

Gargoyle, that is due to the restriction of the transfer pump after the primary filter, have to crank it to get the pump to aid flow.

also correct place to bleed on the pump is the nut on the top centre where the fuel injection pipes leave. On American bosch psb pumps
