do all D17 wfe's fit on all years. a diesel onto a nf 1959 gas?

All 17s up until the series lll are the same, beyond  will interchange but are difference in appearance. same with diesels but they are a bit longer because of the six cylinder engine. Fred. is it safe to assume that you were successful last weekend?
