    Posted: 24 Jun 2011 at 9:50pm
Hello does any one know where I can find a locking fuel cap for a 190xt? I just filled it up and somehow over night it used over forty gallons magically. The local parts guys keep scratching there heads trying to cross it over to something else.

I'd have better luck chaining the old lady out side than the lazy old coon dog!

If you do lock the cap can they just disconnect the fuel line and drain it anyways?

Your best bet is fuel it only as you need. Yes, it's good to fill it when you're done for the day, but if some low life is going to steal the fuel, doesn't do your wallet much good. Just have to drain any water off more often.

My neighbor drained the tank on his 4020 unhooked the fuel line and filled the tank with water it was pretty easy to figure out who was stealing his fuel. He tried a locking cap first but a slide hammer made short work of that.

its too much work to go into the top of the tank and then siphon it out. its alot easier to unscrew a fuel line and let it run out. that's what they do to our tractors. It doesn't even help to padlock the door to the building we keep them in.

This the second time they got me, last winter someone packed 45 gallons off in cans 3/8 of a mile walk from the nearest road in 18" of snow  if they needed it that bad I would have just gave them some all they had to do was ask.

If the tank isn't full, they can't steal what isn't there...

It sounds to me like a midnight shift with a 12 ga is in order. Either that or run a hidden wire from your hottest constant charge fence charger to the tractor. The rubber tires won't ground it out, but wait till they try to get your gas then!

Not so sure on the 12, but I do know a lot of people are using those trail cameras.  Put them someplace where they can't be seen, but close enough to have good resolution of who is doing the work.  Quick call to the local police with the pictures should help fix the problem.

The locking cap probably won't vent either so the tractor will only run in 15 minute bursts with it in place.

I'd set up the trail-cam, but also set up a motion sensor (just the sensor) on a box about waist-high, looking towards the tractor, kinda upwards... and hook it up to a small light shining towards the house.  When you see the light go on, it's time to take a walk with the Mossberg and cellphone.

On my Case 930 I got one from Advance Auto.   Take your cap in and have them match it.  They are pretty standard.  I was more worried about someone putting something in the tank than taking it out.

I'd put out a BIG sign outside the place where my tractor is, saying Warning, to whoever is taking my fuel. I am sitting out here with a loaded 12 gauge shotgun, loaded with 00 buck on some nights. YOU PICK THE NIGHT YOU FEEL LUCKY!
Be sure you are right, then go ahead.--Davy Crockett

Well some one is sore today last night after I finished bush hogging I parked the tractor next to our sewage lagoon and wrapped about six runns of barb wire around it and then went to the loader end about dark and tied my coon hound up then I sat on my porch with my browning humpback, about eleven thirty I heard people talking they had made it all the way to the fuel tank and I fired two shots in the air then the dog started barking one of them got caught in the wire the other one tried to run and fell in the sewage lagoon then he must have climbed out and gotten hung up in the fence on the RR ride of way. This morning I found a ripped pair of jeans with some blood on them the dog was chewing on it, I walked the tracks and found a muddy cowboy boot. Hopefully they won't be back again.
