yea, I know, good Lord what has that crazy Lars thought of next?
Does anybody have, or know anyone who has a ‘Forrest Gump’ riding lawn mower? I believe it is a ‘Snapper’ brand, that is used in the movie. I have a Hann-Eclipse, that is nearly identical to the Allis Chalmers Mow-Bee.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Yessir, that's a Snapper Comet I do believe. We wore out a BUNCH of them when I was a kid. I guess I should say finished wearing them out. Pawpaw would go to auctions and buy them for $25 a piece or so and we would use them for a summer or two until either the deck rusted through or they just weren't going any farther. Then they became parts machines for the next auction "treasures". Some of the best times of my life were fixing those old Snappers with papaw

I got an old one sittin in the bushes, somewhere, they were pretty bulletproof, generally it was the bushings in the steering mech that went.  If you want it, you arrange shipping, and I'll give it to you... Wink

I had a Hann Eclipse, most no muss no fuss drive system I ever seen. I put the  drive on a Bridgeport mil and have been using it since the mower puked.

Snapper Comet used a 'disc drive'... rubber disc attached to the vertical engine PTO shaft, that slid up and down on a big hex or spline (I don't recall)... and it drove a larger aluminum? disc into reduction gearing to the axle.  As the drive disc moved from the outer edge towards the center, the effective drive ratio changed... so it was basically a variometer.

Yep, same drive system my Hann-Eclipse has. Years ago I had an Ariens walk behind snowblower that utilized the same drive system.

My first riding mower had a rear engine and a arm/handle that you pulled back to move and moved side to side to steer. It had a gear box with 2 forward gears and reverse. The next one had a steering wheel and a foot pedal and the same transmission.
