Hello I've got a D17 serial number 40590 the best I can tell it should have 3 separate oil compartments on the rear end. The issue I have is the hyd oil gets into the center section and over fills it. The rear end oil stays the same level. My question is how do I get to the seals leaking between the two compartments? Do I need to split it in the center at the clutch or in front of the rear end? Thanks for any help.

Replacing the clutch shaft inner seals is a big deal. A really big deal. You have to roll the engine away from the front and then roll away the rear end at the dashboard. Then, you gut the entire torque housing to get down to the seals. Give this band-aid a try and see if it doesn't help getting on with life. Drain down the overfull compartment to the add mark or just a tick below add. Take the dipstick to that overfull compartment and plug the tube with silicone RTV after cleaning it thoroughly with brake kleen and compressed air. Reinstall the dipstick with a wrench and get it tight. There should be a copper sealing gasket at the top. Now, fill your front compartment with oil and monitor the results over time. Don't ever remove the dashboard dipstick unless the front dipstick shows an appreciable amount of oil disappearing. Report back with results. |
