water can get from the cooling system to the engine oil in 3-4 different ways...
--One way is thru the freeze plugs under the rocker arm, under the valve cover.. Easy to check. Pull the valve cover and look at the freeze plugs to see if one has a hole in it.
--Second way is that piston liners are replaceable and have o-rings on them when installed. 50 year old rings get hard and crack.. Coolant drips around the liner into the pan. you can pull the oil pan and look UP and see if there is dripping around the liners.
---Third way is the head gasket . Not as common, but possible.
If the leak is very minor, and you know its not the freeze plug, then you might put several ounces of BARS COPPER head gasket sealer into the radiator and run for 30 minutes.. Shut off and let it set.. That can seal up minor leaks if your not looking for tear down at this time..... I have done that a couple times with great success.
