Paul,
Could you post a picture of the B/C side weights used with a longer bolt? Might help someone working on this old iron too.
Folks,
I just cleaned up the longer,  lower steering arm, the side weights, and the knobs they set on. Shot some high build primer on them maybe I can put some of that shiny PO#1 on them soon. The crude paint booth has helped reduce the over spray in the shop a lot!
This old CA was a misfit when I bought it and hasn't gotten much better in my possession either.
I did talk with Brenda at Sandy Lake Impl. and ordered a seal for the PTO shaft. That may reduce the oil dripping from that area? Still have a pesky leak from one of the rad hose connections. Like most of the other Allis tractors we have, they all mark their territory!
Also dropped off the IH rear wheel weights to get them cut in half. They have several saws that should make short work of those. I am going to make some brackets and sq tubing to allow our 15 lb weights to be added if needed.

Here is the short arm, key, gear and bolt. It almost fell out of there!:)

The old sandblaster helps clean these items back near original condition.

Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

Guys,
I did get the parts painted to put the steering back together.

Just like you guys said it steers much better with this long arm installed. Should make a comfortable tractor to handle. The tractor would have worked with the short arm, but it is much better with the change to the long one. A nice ride in the dark down the road was positive. Oh yes the lights work great too. May not win many pulls but will present itself well.

Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

ACinSC, Joe, Steve, folks,
Thanks guys! It's about time I got this old puller running and moving again!
I picked up the rear wheel weights, which were cut into pieces that now weigh about 35 lb each. I am lightly sandblasting these weights, applying Rustoleum primer and then Rustoleum cream color top coat.
Will try to get the PTO seal installed in the next day or so.
The plan is to take the CA, our WD45, and Grandson Nic's WD to the local Albion Fair starting next week. The show at the fair may lead into the tractor pulls later in the week too.
I took some time today to clean up the WD45.

Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

Guys,
I did get some additional details completed on the CA.
Since its a pulling tractor and we do now have weights available. Then we need systems to attach and secure them. Heaviest weight are the side engine weights at 90 lbs each.
The 12 IH rear wheel weights are approx 32 ish each, bolting to the IH rims.

I fabed these 4 stud extenders to add the additional 4 weights to the rims after the eight were in place. Just tacked at this point.-+

I wanted a D ring on each side to attach the tractor to the trailer. These were from Tractor Supply and were to be bolted the a trailer. I blacksmithed the attachment bracket to fit the tractor.

I was so happy with Rustoleum paint today. I sprayed a second coat of the cream on these and within minutes it went to cobweb texture. So much for all the cleaning and prep!

This is 1.5 sq tubing where I was mocking up a tube to hold the 200+ lbs of sq , 15 lb weights we have.

These flat sq weights can be stacked on these tubes. That should work.
All that playing around will get us in the 3000 lb class if desired. Or allow us to add some weight if the Great grandkids are driving the CA.

Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

That sucks about the second coat
If you read the label, there is a window for recoating times. Within 1 hour I think or wait 48 hours. Otherwise, what you've done looks really good

plummer.., Folks,
Heck of a concept reading the lable! Well I accepted the crinkle paint texture on the weights.
New seal in place for the PTO:

old seal tapped out with a large socket

First day in bibs

Hanging out:

Weights added. The extensions worked well to secure the outer weights.

Engine -2 side weights. These are awkward to install.
That 180 lb on the front should keep the front on the ground??

Cleaned and added an exhaust flapper rain cap. Sand blasted several of the 15 lb weights for the back of of the CA.

Regards,
Chris and Cheryl

Folks,
So we are getting ready for our local fair. 3 years ago we purchased "Cheryl Ann" the rough little CA at this fair at the tractor pull. Owner Jack Farnum had this tractor for several years and pulled it at various local events, mostly in the 2500 lb class. The little CA held its own and usually finished better then mid way in the pack. Jack also had a WC that he hauled along with this CA. I guess I should call him and let him know the CA is up and going again.

Here is our WD45 that Cheryl and I took it to display at the fair yesterday:

Finishing up by cleaning the stacked weights on the rear of the CA:

Running out of projects on the CA!

" got on one of these CA's years ago and as I got on and off, I said to my son that "these were a young mans tractor"! Humm? Years later now we own one!

Allis did not have ergonomics at the center of the tractor design. So as I thought about this, I saw there were steps that could be added to assist old folks like me to at least start to get up into the seat. The designs I saw attached to the torque tube of the CA. I liked the idea. So to be cheap I chose to look through my scrap stuff and try to build a step.

I added my own design features (translate that into this was to cover up something or was just how the parts were that I found) as the design was prototyped. This cuts the step in half and seems like it may just work. Did I save anything if I count my time? Heck no! Did I design and build it out of nothing? Yep!

Mesh from Allis grill to add non slip. Let's paint it cream, just because we don't feel like mixing paint!

The step is not a bad idea. Will see how it ends up.
Regards,
 Chris and Cheryl

I think I have all the do-dads on the CA. Time for a viewing!
This step turned out ok.

Had you made the step as a weight frame, you wouldn't have to admit you're an old fart that cant get on your tractorLOLLOLLOL
Chris I have a couple of pictures that will show the difference between the CA an B/C front weight mounts. I just have to take time to process them from my phone into the computer.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY
