I picked up 3 12 VDC winches on The Marketplace for a short song,, and got home, hooked up the spare battery to one and it treid to run...so opened up the controller and contacts was rusty inside,,,So cleaned em up good and I made my money back and them some on just one of the winches,,,,Clap
The second one is a 9000# Ramsey that I was gonna rob the motor for use on a 12,000 # Pierce I rebuilt for my car hauler trailer but the Ramsey motor does not have any wires nor controller hooked up on the motor. The motor has 3 bolt connectors across the top but I have No idea what to where,,,,?
I'ma try to post a pic of the terminals ,,see if someone can chime in,,,,Clap

Joe... the three terminals are to make it run forward and reverse... Below are two diagrams.. one is how to connect it with two SOLENOIDS for permanent installation... the other shows a couple JUMPERS you and use to TEST to make sure it works..... Hopefully there are a couple numbers or letters STAMPED in the motor case.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

There show the terminals as A and F1, F2.... POWER goes to either F1 or F2... the OTHER F(.) jumpers to the A .... the case is grounded.

 Many THANKS, Steve,,that is what I needed,,,,Clap
I knew I could count on your knowledge,,,Clap
I have two of those special solenoids with 4 of the big terminals. All I gotta do is fashion a metal enclosure for the solenoids and mount on the motor. Gonna test the motor with that first dwg make sure it oK,,,

The 3rd of the winches I got was a smaller winch that is a 1500# but no other info on the plastic case. Has two plug-ins on side,,,one plug-in has 3 male prongs and the other plug-in has two prongs,,,,I figure the 2 prong plug-in is 12 VDC positive and negative. The 3 plug-in one must be similar wiring diagram to the bigger winches,,,,?
Reckon where a guy would find some of those 2 and 3 prong male plug-ins,,,?

Your probably right on the 1500# winch.. Is that "plastic" a box on the motor ?  There has to be a couple solenoids or a combo solenoid somewhere.. It might be mounted inside the box on the motor and one of the plugs goes to a remote IN- OUT switch ( 3 wire) ... and the other plug could be the POWER... those would be BIG terminals to carry the load.

Problem is there is no way to know what connectors are used unless you have the manufacturer  / model, etc.... Maybe you can open the cover and get more data ?

Hey Steve,, you done good!!!!!!,,,I "proved" the motor on the Ramsey 9000# winch, using your Dwgs,,,Clap  but as I was running it back and forth, some dang water started running out of the back end.  No BiGGIE,,just glad the motor runs both directions. I removed it from winch and tore it apart,, had a little rust but armature checked good and brushes looked full length,,so cleaned everything up, reassembled it and tried it out of the winch and,,,CHIT FIRE,,,that little sob spins so FAST,,,!!  Must be running at 3600,,,? I had no idea the motor spun so fast!!!!!I'm guessing them winches are geared down quite a bit ain't they???

The 2nd winch is a "Traveller" 2500#  and all it needed was  the controller contacts cleaned and it now  works good. Sold it earlier to my Bro for his ATV. Ain't got around to check out the 3rd winch ,,,,,

Man I didn’t even read this thread but I need a juicetrician as well. No power at house and generator keeping energy free waters full for cattle. Going to be good sleeping tonight I guess. I’ve seen ice storms tear lines down but never a wet snow with wind. Oh well at least global warming will warm the house tonight.
