 Topic: Allis Swinging Draw Bar???

I have an allis swinging draw bar on my c. It doesnt have a hole in the center piece that slides on the draw bar to hold it in place. I have seen only two now that don't have the hole in the center to put a pin to hold it. If you don't have a hole there to put a pin or bolt, what is missing to hold it in place? Did people drill those holes to put pins in them? Mine has never been welded or modified or anything either. Input???

If I remember correctly, the swinging draw bar for a B that I have has a retagular bracket that used two of the holes in the drawbar to hold the swing arm in the center. I don't think there's a hole in the middle on mine either. Its been a while since I looked at it, so I don't remember for sure...

You can drop a bolt in on either side to limit the swing. I think this one is mounted all wrong. the swinging part should be on top of the original drawbar and the strap underneath. So it looks like the V piece should be on top also.

I think you should have two holes on either side of center, the distance of which is approximately the width of the draw bar. Center your draw bar between the two holes and drop bolts into each to hold it in place. Use a large nut under each bolt head to raise their height to better hold the draw bar.

Mine has the hole in the drawbar not the bent bracket. I have the swinging drawbar on top rather than underneath and the single pin down thru the center. No idea if someone drilled it or it came that way.

The swinging drawbar attachment was sold as an accessory for use with the pull type disc harrows of the day (AC #9 typically). Originally there was no hole in the swinging drawbar or the hammer strap that would allow it to be pinned straight. Many (most?) were modified with holes for a locking pin/bolt, but they did not come that way from the factory. See the #9 Disc Harrow parts manual for the B/C swinging drawbar attachment. An additional and somewhat unusual option for the swinging drawbar was the hillside plow hitch which added a hand lever and linkage to move the swinging drawbar from side to side in order to adjust the furrow width of a pull type plow on the fly. I believe the B/C hillside hitch is shown in the Moldboard Plow Frame parts manual.
