I think ive got a 301 eng out of a G Gleaner bought, I am wanting to put this in a D19, I wanted to know about what all I will have to have to make this work, my biggest concern is rear plate and flywheel. Also the engine is painted orange and I thought combine engs were gray or black, and the pump is on rh side of eng like the 190 tractors and I thought combines had them on lh side of eng but wasnt sure, nver had any Gleaners on the farm so Im not real familiar with them. Anyway if anybody has any info that would be great.

You will need the flywheel and clutch from a 190 tractor. I put one in a D17 gas. I had to make a spacer plate to account for the clutch shaft being longer on a gas tractor. The shaft on a diesel D17 is shorter. The rear plate from the combine will bolt to the tractor bell housing. I made some bushing to go under the bolt heads so the shank of the bolt, the part not threaded, went about 3/4 of the way through the engine rear plate. Frame rails and radiator outlets, you will have to do what you have to do. I wanted a 30 gpm hydraulic pump on the front of the engine so, I made room for that.

The early Gs had orange motor. Use the D19 flywheel. MACK

Thanks for the input, so the 262 flywheel will bolt up to the 301? and if it does willthe D19 clutch hold up ok to the extra hp? I'm not planing on working the tractor that hard, probably just play around with 4 bottom plow, maybe a 14ft disc and some bush hog work, and the plowing and discing would be just for play not planning on farming with it.

Your D19 steering rod and steering cylinder mechanism will not fit because the inj pump is going to be in the way. Radiator outlets will have to be moved. Tach drive will be the opposite direction. Engine is longer so side rails and front axle frame will have to be modified or use 190 side rails. Just a few of the things.....its not a simple bolt in conversion because the D19 is more compact than the later series 180's and 190's and used a different steering mechanism. It can be done, but not really practical.

the 262 flywheel and clutch will bolt right on the 301 but the 301 tractor fly wheel and clutch will also work but may have to grind in bell housing a little for clearence of 190 clutch and flywheel.

If you use the 301 adaptor plate use the 190 flywheel, then the starter will fit flywheel. MACK

How much longer is the 301? its still in combine an hour and a half away so i cant run out and look. On the steering issue it looked to me like it would fit under the inj pump.

I don't have my original D19D block as somebody borrowed it to take the head off and I never got it back, but I measured a combine engine that was the same as a D19 gas and it is 3" shorter than the 301 for just the block. I don't have the front cover for the D19 so I can't compare it to the 301, but I think its a little bit shorter, too. The problem w/steering rod is that the injection pump drive is in the way, plus is there room for the D19 steering unit on that side of the engine? |

I have the front engine plate you'll need, as well as 190 frame rails if you want to go that route.....give me a buzz, have some stuff you'll need......would like to do this or a 433 swap in a '19 some day! 615-542-6999

The steering issue is my biggest concern now I think, but wiyhout having the eng here and bolted up I wont know for sure what I will have to do. I think I will go ahead and buy the eng cause its cheap enough that if it dont work i can get my money back out of it pretty easy. Slade I my get ahold of you on some of thos parts, when is a good time to call

I bought the motor and I got it bolted to tractor today,I got rear plate and flywheel figured out, 301 is 3in. longer so will have some extending to do, no big deal, the steering is however going to take some work the 301 is alot wider at bottom of eng so now I see what Pete was saying about clearance for the steerin cyl. Slade I sent you a pm on those parts. Anyone that has done this got an idea on the steering? I thought about dropping steering down to let steering cyl go under frt cover and eng plate would take about 4-6" then add setion to bottom of grill shell, and raise rad, it would also raise the front of tractor up so I dont know how that would look. Any thoughts?

Kinda slow between work and getting equip ready to go to the field, but I do have the rails getting extended, the 301 is 3" longer, I have had it bolted to tractor looks good in there. I decided to go with hydrostatic steering i have removed input and cyl from front steering unit to make room for the 301. The combine rear plate bolt up to tactor only 1 hole dont line up. The tractor flywheel is 1/2" smaller than combine flywheel but the starter bendix is same size and same # of teeth and it looks like the starter hole is the same distance from center of crank so I would like to use the 301 starter if I can, anybody have any thoughts on this let me know. as far as pics Ill try to get acouple on here wwhen I get the rails back and the eng in again.

we thought about doing a 301 swap on ours d19. don't have the time that it sounds like it would take though, and the other option is finding a good 262 d. good luck with that, i don't think they made any good ones.LOL i'd have to find one with overhaul receipts if i were to bye one.

Can you use the hydraulic steering from a 190 and the cylinder on the front axel? I don't have an extra but this might be an option.

When i put my d17 puller together with a 301 i used hyd steering off a combine mounted cylinder to axle to push pull drag link.

I wish i had some close up pics. Most got deleted from my phone. I used factory d17d framerails hadto cut a hole in the front bolster for the crank pulley. Our rules say u cant change wheelbase so i had to use the hyd cylinder for steering works pretty good just dont turn quite as short as it used to.

I have all the parts for hyd steering, hand pump, cyl, steering arm and pivot like the 190's have and as I said in the earlier post i have removed cyl and input shaft from original steering unit and have plates to bolt on to cover holes. My plan is to mount the orig pump on eng to supply pwr to steering and by plating the frt unit I can use that as my resivor and not have to tie in to the tractor hyd.
