Most are either way over priced, very high miles an 8.1 or a Duramax.
Betting that 75 percent or more of the Duramaxes list a whole lot of problems and say bring a trailer. I don’t have experience with an 8.1 but it sounds rough on gas to me? Wonder if they last like a 6.0? |

I feel your pain. Been sort of keeping an eye on trucks since February. My favorite ad so far: Ran and drove great just before it seized up.

I keep driving my old Dodge solely based on the prices of a replacement. Just welded the frame back together yesterday and that is the second crack.
The "Duramax" is a good engine with exception of 2015 into mid 2017. In those years parts of the injection pump come apart filling the system with trash requiring on the engine fuel system replaced at great expense. The 8.1 is a very good engine just as durable as the 6.0 if maintained well. It is a 10-12mpg economy enginemost ways it's looked at.

[QUOTE=Darwin W. Kurtz]Those Dodges......most of the mechanical components far outlast the rusted out body parts[/QUOTE That certainly is the case here. I service vehicles quite well getting 300+ thousand miles out of everything routinely. This poor truck, (I purchased new) has really performed poorly as far as rust and it wasn't home three hours before I had the bed hanging from my shop gantry fully rustproofing and undercoating everything quite liberally. Problem was here, the top can't hang on if the base doesn't adhere well. Truck still runs and drives well and the V-10 engine is going into an old portable air compressor once I find a replacement truck I'm willing to pay for.

I bought a 2003 Dodge dually diesel, it has over 300,000 miles on it, still driving it and pulling trailers, no problems so far except when driving home the first time, some lug nuts came off/broke off. but caught in time. a/c still blows cold too! i've bought several trucks on the on line auctions, high miles but cheaper prices. was never disapointed with any of them. and no problems selling them after I was done with them. even alot of those are selling for bigger money nowadays...just hafta be patient.

I have had 2 with 8.1L. 4.10 gears get 8mpg, 3.73 gears get 10mpg. Didn't matter how easy or hard the job was, they were consistent on mileage.

My 6.0 has always been right around 12 mpg. |

And as we speak age of these all mechanical machines creeps on. My own Ford 1999 F250 mechanical parts are slipping away where are aftermarket, do not perform the same as OE tend to not last any length of time and rust keeps eating at it. It is not worthy of claiming antique stafus as that eliminates use as the truck built as.
New machines are trash, tinfoil and plastic designed to fail very early very often and very ugly at pricing no one can rationally afford. Thank your elected for allowing the regulations regulators to drive this. |
