So wife's little booboo was an eye opener, saw the bill carstar gave CAA.
Anyone want to guess what the front left wheel well moulding cost ?
This is maybe 2 pounds of black plastic.

FIVE HUNDRED AND TEN CANUCKS  !!

 Yes, $510 !!!

I even checked online, that IS the price ,from the dealer !

Sad thing is the 'damaged' one could have been buffed out, heck I didn't even see any REAL damage.

Oh well, NOT my car, not my problem....

Guy needs left headlight for a Volvo XC60(?), current list is $1500 ! it was $4500. Only fits 3 years..

Seems manufacturers are raping us over, large for the bits and pieces needed for minor booboos !!!

The bracket(83244) I need for my F150 shifter is 'only' $49 from Amazon. Piece of thin plastic, size of one dice. Real PITA to install too.....

It has become a Cash Cow to supply parts for autos by manufacturer, even the aftermarket Crap that comes from overseas, made for pennies but is within 10-20% of OEM so the profiting continues.  The Gooberment will NOT Change that, as that would keep OLD Cars or Repaired Cars on the roads longer, simpler to Total them for two busted headlights and popped airbags than to repair.

Nobody is buying a Model T for under $1,000.00 anymore. Everyone is buying a car that cost twice of what my parents paid for a farm. These high priced cars have all kinds of worthless electronic bull$hit that will surely fail before the payment book runs out. and everyone expects features that cover for lack of driving ability, all of which drive costs to unreasonable levels. As mentioned everything is designed PROFIT instead of durability anymore. This is the basic reason why everyone complains about a bad economy, they've pissed away money for so long that inflation has spiraled out of control because no one considers the real value of what they think they deserve to have. The truth is our economy is so bad most everyone is spending money like they just won the lottery.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

Much of these "Improvements" to autos came at the requirement or request of Federal Codes, faster electronics for Emissions, ABS, removal of Manual any functions or the increase in Steering Wheel accessed functions for a "Hands Free" Driven Machine.  The net result and rules are that any auto at 9 years since the last model version used becomes a NOS Warehoused Parts ONLY value and all repair parts manufacture are discontinued or foreign Aftermarket ONLY.  All new moldings/toolings, all new supply lines/chains, removal of that last line or chain and equates to Expenses for the producers that supply the ASSEMBLERS, where these roll in and out of smaller business value passing expense to those assembly line shops and costing US in the end.

ECMs for pre 2010 machines are available ONLY as Aftermarket or Rebuilt these days, the majority have to be purchased as a Blank and Programmed by the supplier to fit Your Car.  Heard that from a local as to a Processor for a 1997 GM could NOT be located Salvage or otherwise, purchased a Programmable Blank and had to have the seller program to his chassis number.  Double Expense, Purchase then Program, end cost was close to $2200 for a 1997 GM Corvette.  Younger Brother has had similar issues restoring his old Pontiacs, mainly due to NO Supply chain dealers anymore.
