Mike, Folks,
A little more of that too! I did leave the dash box in the lower position. I couldn't get the 5/16 nut on the back of the box. The Battery box bracket was in the way. Remember this is only a Clean, Refurb, and Paint project. I have had the gas tank assembly on and off several times. I forgot I needed to run the wires in the tool box area. Headlights and tail light wiring is what's left to complete. Regards, Chris

Guys,
Almost there! Tonight I completed the spark plug wires. Primed the oil pump. Got a new battery from Walmart. The old battery had been used on my electrolysis tank and it is pretty hard on them. It would spin the tractor and then die. Took a couple tests to determine it was not good under load. Oil pressure is at the N in normal with our running yet. Just cranking. I tried the hood. Looks like it will be ok when finally fit. Busy day tomorrow but may try to start the CA? Cheryl's birthday is Tuesday. I would like to have it running. I did try the lights and they worked. Some other shots: I know the cable colors are not correct. But that is what NAPA had. Luan cover to keep lid off the terminals The silver bullet Cheryl helping prime the oil pump. Crude set up but it worked! Regards, Chris and Cheryl

I noticed the floor pan didn’t have a hand clutch lever notch. Did it ever have a hand clutch?

Guys,
Thanks! Sparky, I welded in a sheet metal patch where the hand clutch was. I thought someone might get a small foot in there. I added some gas and friend John came over this morning turned on the gas, flipped the key and pulled the starter rod. It fired up. We weren't there. Got out to the shop in a half hour and started it several times today. Even took it out around the shop. All gears seemed to work. Brakes worked very well! Steering not great, stiff. Should work fine for pulling. Oil pressure was very good. Had a minor problem with the side hood bolts being too long. My fault. fan blades hit them and luckily did not do much damage. Got that fixed (Dodged a bullet on that fan thing, could have been way worse!). It seems to run pretty well. Have some oil coming out of the short hose from the air cleaner to the carb? Not sure what the cause is? Also have a leak at the upper edge of the hose from the water pump to steel tube. Pictures are coming! Tomorrow is Cheryl's birthday! Hoping to get the decals on tomorrow too. Warmed it up at different rpm's, pulled valve cover and set valves to .012 inch. I repainted the hood strap and the oil filler cap this afternoon and installed them this evening. The paint was too light, ok its not going to be perfect. Went around and touched up a bunch of areas that have been light and or missed or scuffed. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Check and see if you’ve got too much oil in the oil bath air cleaner.

Guys,
The continuing saga of the CA. I pulled it around to the other side of the shop. It started to run rough, like running out of gas. It was struggling for sure! Got it back in the shop. Retorqued the head and checked the valve lash again. Took the carb off and cleaned it again, put more gas in it. Removed sediment bowl and cleaned out the light stuff in the glass. Still did not run good at all. Pulled each plug wire while it was running and the very rough running did not change at all. Checked the valves again. Had run out of things and was afraid I had put something together wrong and it was coming apart! So I called a good friend since day one of first grade a Allis guy and a good mechanic too. He said the problem might be the condenser. I had just put a new one in. We talked about getting the rods in wrong on these engines. I drained the oil and was ready to pull the pan to check rod location/ direction/ offset. I could not remember checking that. I looked back through my pictures and remembered that I just marked the top of the pistons with a arrow and a number. I had never taken the piston and rods apart. So our son Eric was over for his moms birthday today and he was walking around the tractor listening to the story of the CA running rough all of a sudden today. And also what Ted had said. Eric said do you have another condenser? Yep, I put it in dumped the oil back in. And Fired it up. It ran fine! I could not believe it. I have never had a condenser fail like that. Learned something today! Erie took it for a ride down the road. He found his birthday numbers in a casting number on the side of the tranny!:) Maybe the decals will jump on the CA tomorrow? I want to get some sulfur additive for the cam break in. we still need to get some time on the engine in next two weeks. Pull coming up at our local fair in mid September. Next is to clean up and paint the weights needed to get to 2500 lbs. Maybe even the 3000 lb class. Regards, Chris and Cheryl
