I took my crop production class (high school Ag) out to a field that had been shelled by a newer JD and we measured the grain loss. After checking about 30 spots the yield loss was less than 1 bushel. We also went out a few weeks ago and did a yield estimate and they estimated the yield at 203 bu per acre and the weigh ticket showed 215 bu per acre.

My BIL runs a 9600 and a 9610. Hard red spring wheat, canola, durum wheat, flax. You wont find much behind his machines, they also look brand new. I know  guy with 2 R72s. Usually green after a shower or two in his fields, pretty smokey out of the cummins as well. My Dad/grandpa had gleaners from 46-96. There was nothing left behind. A friend has 2188s. Engines have been cranked, fancy rotors, hyper this and that, those combines are pushed until they plug. They unplug and do it all over again, day after day. They always have green fields after harvest. A neighbor had 860 Massey Hydros and an 865. There was one speed, until the V8 Perk wouldn't/couldn't handle it. Smoked like the field was on fire...He didn't care how much they threw out, he was/is a BTO and a "Master Farmer" and would not slow down for any reason. ANY combine can be made to do a nice job, I guess it depends on what priorities are. Do I have a preference? Of course, 1985 L3 Gleaner just before re-badging. If they would have made that combine a foot wider and put the 516 on it at 275, they would still be selling them. JMHO, Trev.
