I have an AC200 that has a broken oil pan plug boss. I removed the front and rolled the steering assembly forward. While the pan is being repaired I figured I would remove the "play" in the front end by removing the pin that holds the steering assembly to the cast iron block that bolts between the frame rails, and replace the bushings. I have the bushings for replacement but don't know how to remove the pin. Anyone ever done this before? The pin seems to have a threaded hole in the end.... think I can pull it out somehow? Do the bushings come out easily? What is the best way to tackle this project? Thanks in advance for your help!

Remove the cast piece that moves the tie rods so you can see the snap ring that holds the pivot pin in place.  You will need to support the casting with something and stabilize the wishbone from flopping around since it is only balancing on the tires and nothing to hold them.   I believe the pin is fine threaded so you can use a puller.  I made one out of a piece of pipe slightly bigger than the pin, flat bar, and a long piece of threaded rod (3/8" i believe).  The pin can be a bugger to remove if worn badly.  The pin gets caught.  Bushings should come out easily if they are that worn.  Hope the casting isn't worn or new bushings won't last.  Don't polish the inside of the casting where the bushings ride too much or they might slide around inside the bore and block the grease zerk.

DougG... when I grab the cast iron block I can rock it about 1/4", so I figure its worn. The other end is very loose as you mentioned and actually has worn some of the metal away where the rear bracket and the steering assembly rotate on each other. I may have to build it up with some weld and then machine it some.

Chad(MN) .... thank you for your response. I was wondering if there was a set screw or c-clip holding that pin in place. It sounds like I should thread in the rod to the pin and "draw" it out slowly. I hope the pin isn't worn and it's just the bushings. Thank you again for your help.
