Hello all,
A big thanks to everyone that posts, I’ve gained a lot from reading past posts. I split my WD at the rear of torque tube to replace the clutch collar and clutch springs. Got everything back together and I can’t get the frame rails the last 1” back to the axle. I backed the rear end off and removed the clutch pack again to verify that it wasn’t caught on a driven disc spline. Put it back in, roll rear end forward and same deal. It doesn’t seem to be bound externally, so the only idea I can some up with is that the “output” shaft is caught on something it shouldn’t be. I should add that I have it on threaded rods from the axle to frame rail, and it is NOT on a nice level surface. Is it possible to have the rear end pitched enough that I’m through both driven discs with the shaft, but the tip is caught before it can fully seat? Thanks for any and all responses, this is my first attempt at splitting and I’m at a loss for how to proceed. Austin Edited by Austin41 - 23 Apr 2023 at 9:49am |

I would have hand clutch released and foot clutch locked out. You can then rotate hand clutch by hand through cover. Wiggle, turn, push fwd, wiggle, turn,push....it will eventually go. DO NOT TRY TO FORCE IT WITH THREADED RODS. A tweak is okay but not forcing.

I'll add.... check/measure your gap that's left. You have one location lagging behind the rest and it's just enough to keep the nose from lining up.

I take the input shaft out of the transmission and install it in the torque tube. Then I slide the tractor together.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
We have decent weather today, so hopefully I get the tarps off and give it another go. I’ll make sure to give an update, and I’m positive I’ll have more questions for you all as the tractor and I get better acquainted! |

Forgot about the removable shaft. Been a long time since splitting mine. Lon's idea is best.

I really NEED to write that down in my manual for the upcoming WD rebuild project on my to-do list. Thanks for the tip! ![]() |
