Thanks can you tell me where to look for parts and a service manual? I think it needs steering clutches but not sure would it not turn or not pull if the clutches were bad?

http://www.minnpar.com has parts manuals online and some parts are still available. you can also buy service manuals online just do a little searching. if it wont turn the clutches are probably stuck from sitting or have some issue not releasing them. if it wont move i would suspect main clutch, as unlikely both steering clutches wont hold.

steering section is similar to HD5 as the rear casting is the same unit - early HD6 were same dry units later went to oil

General Gear is where I got a new clutch and pressure plate for my HD5B. They also have steering clutches.

Try running the machine for a while with both steering clutch levers pulled back. Occasionally the clutches will free up. If you decide to put pipe plugs in the clutch compartment drains and flush the clutch compartment with diesel oil, try to clean the debris from the compartment first.
There are a lot of AC manuals and steering clutches on eBay. |

Depends on how bad the leak is if its just leaking around the seam you can take the tank off steam clean the inside and wash out it with acctone and pour some stuff called red kote in it I have done it on my massey furguson 135 diesel tank . the trick to it is its got to be very clean and you cant let it puddle up in the tank and make sure its completely dry before installing

I have had the liner stuff come off after 10 years, but they claim it is better stuff today. I just got 4inch crack in a D2 tank welded for $40.

I've welded a lot of fuel tanks, more alum. than steel. It's really not that dangerous if you use good sense. Cleaning, and I like to use Dawn dish soap. Take you tank and turn the crack up and fill with water to close to the crack. Solder or weld as you choose. Or clean the tank, stick a air hose in one of the holes, blow for a bit, weld'er up. You'll need to keep the air going in but regulate it so that it doesn't blow real hard. Been doing it sense back in the 60"S. No blow ups yet. Leon Cmo

I also have welded quite a few tanks. We would clean tank out, dress cracks and prep then displace air in tank with wire feed gas, weld with wire feed welder(minimize inclusions) and over cover with a good two part epoxy for any possible 'bug holes' in the weld.

That' good. More than one way to skin the kitty. I guess it's a matter of using what you got. Again, be careful! Leon Cmo
