Where should the needle on the traction booster gauge be on a working gauge? All the way to the left, right or in the middle. If the needle doesn't move does that mean traction booster is not working? OR can it work with a defective/broken gauge?
Any assistance in advance would be appreciated. Thanks!!

A working traction booster guage is all the way to the left when the hydraulics are not being used. It is only an oil pressure guage on the hydraulic system. Everything will work fine without a working guage.

Where should the needle on the traction booster gauge be on a working
gauge? All the way to the left,:When you are not using the hydraulics and the lift lever is down. right or in the middle. When the pump is lifting something under pressure it should move toward the center or to the right depending on the pressure needed to do the lift. If the needle
doesn't move does that mean traction booster is not working? No, it could be the gauge is bad or the hydraulic pump isn't lifting anything. OR can it
work with a defective/broken gauge? The gauge doesn't have any effect on the Traction booster system, it just shows you when it is working and gives you a reference point to set the system so it works for your specific job.

Any 5,000 PSI oil filled pressure gauge should work in place of the original. Available for bout $15 many places.

If I remember correctly, on your D-15 it depends on the position of the 'Traction Booster Lever' as to whether or not the Traction Booster Gauge registers any pressure. If the Traction Booster Lever is in the most lower position (CCW) the gauge does not register, no mater where the Lift / Lower Lever is positioned. The Traction Booster System comes in to play when an implement is connected to the Snap Coupler - EG. a plow or cultivator. If the pulling power required to pull the implement increases substantially, then a LARGE spring located at the Snap Coupler area starts to compress, which through linkage activates the Traction Booster System, that is, supplying more hydraulic pressure to the rear lift rams. This in turn starts to take some of the weight of the implement ( carry it ) without actually lifting it. Thus the term Traction Booster - the system boosts the rear wheels traction by adding some of the weight of the implement to the tractor. I believe for the Traction Booster System to be activated, the Lift / Lower Lever must be in the Lowest Position, and the Traction Booster Lever in approx. the Centre Position. Perhaps those who operate a D-15 for plowing will chime in and confirm if I am correct in remembering how the D-15 Traction Booster System works. Gary |

I always could hear and feel the TB working - don't remember watching the gage much. I would much rather put $100 in another project.

No matter what...TB setting is established by how it is doing it's job. Too much slip-raise lever a tad.Keeping implement out of ground-lower it a bit. Watching a guage is not going to help you. Get it where it's working good and then you can amuse yourself by watching the guage move around.
No guage on 210-8000's,maybe even D21's and they all use TB feature. There's a reason. Edited by SteveM C/IL - 06 May 2012 at 3:48pm |

This was a great discussion and told me so much more than I already knew. I was putting a lot more into the gauge than I really need to. I"ll also keep experimenting with. Thanks so much for responding guys, I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!
