Looking at a 1981 JD 450. I know this is an Allis forum but frankly I do not know of another forum that has the wealth of knowledge this forum has. I would love to buy an Allis but finding one in good shape in my neck of the woods is slim picking and parts is another issue entirely. So that said what are the good/bad things to look for? Dozer is LGP 6 way blade diesel. Do not know the hours looks like the tack was replaced at some point. Fairly clean. Looking to use it as a farm dozer.
Thanks in advance. Worth Golightly (TexasAllis) |

1981 would be a 450C with wet steering clutches- better than earlier models with dry clutches.

A good friend has had Deere units, had a 450C and now a 555, the 555 is so far superior it isn't funny and roughly the same size. The two are loaders not dozers but either will do a nice job for the size they are.
