So simple, and it works. And I like the first operator better than the picker!

Sure could use one of those but I would also need one of those tree shakers they use to shake the walnuts or almonds off the trees in CA.

I think you can use apples on the ground if they are washed in chlorinated water, rules may be different in different states. Those are sure tall apple trees. We try to keep them no more then 10 feet high. So, what did grandpa do with the young lady? Stole her machine and ?

Yep each state is different but the other big problem is it looks like the machine spears thje apple??? Contamination on the spear is then injected into the apple where chlorine cant get it... Dem tough germs arent afraid of a little ecoli!

Either fermentation or pasturizing would take care of any bacteriological issue, you would probably not want them to sit around very long before processing.

seems like a useful tool for the homestead. A few folks I know make plenty of cider and wine. Dont think I would try it for the strudel apples though

Reminds me of my neighbor who got an apple press at an auction. He called over and said to bring some apples so we could make cider. I was getting them off the tree and only the select ones that had fallen. He got tired of waiting and came over with a silage fork and scooped up every apple he could get, some partially rotten, some that were buggy, they all went into the making of the cider. It was quite a while before any could be saved because we all were filling our cups. It was really good cider. He also had a walk-in cooler where we would keep apples for making cider. It was even better cold out of the press. That was 50 years ago and I didn't die from it.

Made some whe i was young , we all ways used the drops . Just washed and crushed seldom cut out a bad spot . Few bad spots seemed to give it a better flavor . |
