   Can't tell much from the photo and I couldn't get the phone camera deployed quick enough, but this is during a driving lesson out on the back roads to my 13 year old granddaughter. Off in the weeds just over a slight bluff you can barely see a WD tractor which was at work. I believe it was running a pump as there is a pond over that crest and that tractor either resides there, or is used there often as I've seen it many times.

And the results after the time with "Grandpa":

	That WD is still on the job. Great way to have your granddaughter develop some driving experience. Looks like she enjoyed it. I had my granddaughter doing the same with my F250 when she was that age. If you can find a teen driver course (one day class) in your area that teaches emergency maneuvers it’s well worth the time and money. I think State Farm Insurance may sponsor one. Is that a Subaru that she is driving?

	I use a WD all the time to pull my dump trailer around the farm,a little light on steep land but with the NF its handy getting into tight places.

	All four of my granddaughters get the driving lessons on the back roads as did my kids at those ages. Kinley, (shown driving) can also operate the skid steer, tractors, and is beginning to learn to shift my R model Mack truck w/13 speed, (no semi trailer yet). All four will be proficient by driver's education classes. I sponsored driver's education safety classes along with motorcycle safety classes given by the local community college for many sessions when in business. I believe in them for certain. Only practice and reiteration of safety and preparedness can make for safe driver's till experience is gleaned. Exposure and experience are the two best teachers no matter what is preached from a desk however. I don't know if that tractor is a WD, or WD-45 as have never been nearer than the road to it. There are a mix of tractors around that immediate area and I can't say if I know who owns that piece of property. The tractor is seemingly always there whether summer, or winter and there is a cattle farm not far distant so may be the water source for them? The few times I've seen it running, it seems to run well with a steady drone to it. Forgot the car: Yes, 2024 Subaru Forester. Really a nice little vehicle for us. Second vehicle we've purchased new and I'm still driving the Nissan Altima this vehicle replaced which was our first new vehicle. Edited by Codger - 29 May 2025 at 7:45am

	I needed to shuttle a tractor from the shop to owner's house down the road a spell. Had the granddaughter, (shown earlier) drive the car while I piloted the tractor down the state hiways between point "A", and "B". Was promptly "ratted out" when I dropped her back home later in the afternoon as my daughter let me know. Text message started out with "I want to chew your ass dad, but you let me do the same thing"!!! I guess granddaughter was acting as if on "springs" the balance of the afternoon.

	She sure will remember grandpa... I took the grand-daughter out in the field last year with the old '92 F250 and made her slow up for the ditches and do the start stop and go again over and over to get her to have that eye-hand-foot coordination. When she got pretty good at that, then I had her drive past the round bales to see about her judging distances... and telling her to skim some hay off the bales with the outer edge of the mirror with out flipping the mirror back, figured it was far better to have her smuck a bale with the old truck than have her hit a car out on the highway for not knowing how to gauge distances... and had a few spots that I made her back into the tree line. That was interesting... not, but she started learning to use mirrors to back up. More training kids get, the better they will hopefully get. One fellow in the area gave his kids an old car to run around the farm in, they would take turns at driving that beater, and a beating it got. They rolled that car several times and the old man finally told them they had to stop that or he would haul that car to the scrapyard... and they did roll it a few more times after that, just didn't tell dear ol dad. Man, that was back in the early 60's when they were teenagers.

	Thanks. Always have believed time with the kids should not be avoided during their impressionable, or upcoming years. My own two went through what the next generation is now going through. We have a very close "tight knit" family because of it. The young one pictured earlier can drive/operate my "Hercules" sprayer tractor, but is not yet tall enough to effectively control "Honkey" because of physical size. Discovered last week it has been so long since the seat has been moved, it is frozen in place. Suspension does not work either so looking to replace this next fiscal quarter with a nicer seat. She should then be able to operate the tractor. I built them a go kart three, or four years ago and it is still used. Had to experiment with gearing and engines to get it to where mom was satisfied with a balance of power, braking, and stability. There are "ruts" cut in the large side yard from the power slides of this thing which started out as a 5hp B&S Sears kart.
